Following are security incidents reported in Iraq
on Sunday, Oct. 30, as of 1800 GMT.
U.S. and Iraqi forces are battling a Sunni Arab insurgency
against the Shi'ite and Kurdish-led government in Baghdad.Asterisk denotes a new or updated item.* FALLUJA -
A U.S. Marine died of wounds after his vehicle was hit
by a roadside bomb near Nasser wa Salaam on Saturday,
the U.S. military said in a statement released from Falluja.
FALLUJA -
Two Iraqi soldiers were killed by roadside bomb in Falluja.
Other soldiers with them then opened fire,
killing a woman and a 12-year-old boy who were passing by,
police said.
BAGHDAD -
U.S. forces said at least six suspected insurgents were killed
and five wounded in a U.S. airstrike after U.S. forces surrounded
a group of insurgents in an area known for ambushes northwest of Baghdad on Saturday night.
BAGHDAD -
A deputy trade minister was wounded in the shoulder
when gunmen attacked his motorcade in Baghdad, police said.
Two of Qais Dawoud Hassan's bodyguards were killed and six wounded.
A passer-by was also wounded in the shooting.
BAGHDAD -
An adviser to the cabinet was killed when gunmen attacked him
in northern Baghdad, police said.
The victim, Ghalib Abdul Mahdi, was the brother of
Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi.
His driver was also killed.
MAHMUDIYA -
Two civilians were killed and three wounded when
a roadside bomb exploded near an Iraqi police patrol
in Mahmudiya, just south of Baghdad, police said.
BAGHDAD -
One person was killed and three wounded when gunmen
attacked their car in northern Baghdad, police said.
The victims worked for the movement of cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
BAGHDAD -
Two employees of a bank were killed by gunmen in southern Baghdad, police said.
KIRKUK -
An assistant manager at Iraq's North Oil Company was assassinated
on Saturday by gunmen in the northern oil city of Kirkuk,
police said.
MAHMUDIYA -
One civilian was killed and three wounded when
a roadside bomb exploded near an oil truck in Mahmudiya,
just south of Baghdad, police said.
BAGHDAD -
A police colonel was killed on Saturday when gunmen
attacked his house in northern Baghdad, police said.
His bodyguard was also killed and his wife and nephew were wounded.

With violence continuing in Iraq,
the U.S. Defense Department has released figures
suggesting that some 26,000 Iraqis,
both civil and military,
have been killed or wounded in insurgent attacks
since 1 January 2004.
The Associated Press reports that the toll is derived
from daily Iraqi casualty estimates that the Pentagon
has provided in response to questions from staffers
working for members of the U.S. Congress.
