(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Many adults in the United States are worried about the progress of the coalition effort, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 57 per cent of respondents believe things are going badly for the U.S. in Iraq.
The coalition effort against Saddam Hussein’s regime was launched in March 2003. At least 2,011 American soldiers have died during the military operation, and more than 15,200 troops have been injured.
On Oct. 28, U.S. president George W. Bush ruled out any changes to the current strategy, saying, "Our nation has made a clear choice: We will confront this mortal danger to all humanity. And we will not tire and we will not rest until the war on terror is won."
Americans are evenly divided on the rationale for the coalition effort. 49 per cent of respondents believe the U.S. made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq, while 49 per cent disagree.
