LAT: First Lady (Maria Shriver) Appears to Be Sitting Out This Election
First Lady Appears to Be Sitting Out This Election
Kennedy legacy clashes with her loyalty to her spouse, keeping Shriver silent on ballot issues.

By Paul Pringle, Times Staff Writer

On a recent morning, Maria Shriver had a roomful of admiring listeners hanging on her every word. Unfortunately for her husband, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, none of them was old enough to vote.

Shriver was addressing a fourth-grade class at Charles W. Barrett Elementary School in South Los Angeles as part of a campaign to improve disaster preparedness among children. On another campaign important to the Shriver-Schwarzenegger household — the battle over state ballot initiatives backed by the governor — California's first lady has remained virtually silent.

Aides to the couple say that isn't expected to change before the Nov. 8 special election. They and others don't blame Shriver for her silence, even if it has deprived Schwarzenegger of one of his most articulate and charismatic advocates.

After all, Shriver would be breaking family ranks no matter where she came down on the measures, Democratic and Republican activists say. As a Democrat and a Kennedy, they say, she would have to all but shape-shift to endorse proposals despised by the party that counts three of her uncles as icons.

And if she were to publicly criticize the initiatives, things presumably would get chilly on the home front....

1. "improve disaster preparedness among children"
That's a new class. I guess this has replaced the evil science classes.

God love her but the damage has already been done.

18. That's what happens when you sleep with THE ENEMY, Maria.
You are a traitor. You reap what you sow.

4. She recorded a "disaster preparedness" ad that

runs on the radio in which she whines in that nasal voice "Does your family have a plan?" My response is always the same: "My family's plan is to vote to get your idiot husband out of office. Just go away."

14. I HATE Those Radio Ads!! If L.A. Or SF or SD
ever had to evacuate forGET ABOUT IT!! There is simply no way. We are sitting ducks with GWBs "Operation Piss Off The Planet," and with his "retooling" ie gutting of FEMA we could count on no assistance for 72 hours and 72 hours after that and after that....it's Bush's Uh-murka, ain't it grand? I noticed Arnie kept his distance from GWB when he came here last week, well, too late asshole, you're a Bush Republican and you're goin' down. And so are your stupid-ass corporatist anti-worker propositions!

6. Smart. Now dump the lame schmuck! Ahhnold, the one-hit wonder.
Maria knows not to associate herself with losers. She fancies herself a cross-over candidate for the future.

She's one of the smarter Kennedy kids -- brassy and articulate -- but just a little too opportunistic.

I wonder if she realizes the harm she's done to working Americans and others.

12. To tell the truth, I've never liked Maria.
She always came across to me as a Kennedy princess airhead. Marrying Arnold didn't improve my evaluation of her. It's too bad she didn't kick his adulterous, sexual predator ass out of her life years ago and moved on with her life.

I blame her as much for Arnold being Governor now. When most of California had already elected the governor they wanted the previous year, the neo-cons upended our vote and presented us with Arnold. Many of those voters, who voted for him thought she had influenced him with her liberal ideas and he preyed on that naivity making her campaign with him although she had previously stated she didn't want to be a part of politics. Then she did an about face and was at his side campaigning with him. It was clearly a ploy to muddy the facts and get Democratic votes that wouldn't have gone to him.

She doesn't have any influence on his politics. She strikes me as having no say in her life or that of her children at all because he is a controlling, dominating person. Some people, who voted for Arnold, thought he wasn't a neo-con because of her and she did nothing to state otherwise. By enabling him, she has compromised us and sold us down the river.

besides her maybe? She's nasal and completely inane, I mean what's your FAVORITE Maria Schriver interview? Does anybody have even one memorable take on her whole lousy TV career? I can't stand her.

16. I Really Feel Sorry For Their Kids, Especially The Chubby Ones
A couple of those girls have really put on the weight, can you imagine with Gropenator & Skellator as your parents how messed up your body image would be if you weren't "perfect" or "fit?"

Those photo op pics of them leaving mass, yikes. I have a feeling they have the Patti Davis type thing going on at home. I thank God for my sane, liberal, accepting parents!

17. you NEVER see picture of their daughters
They didn't look "thrilled" after Ahnuld stole that election on the swearing in. Does anyone have pictures of them? They looked like female versions of Ahnuld with blond hair if I remember right.

Kennedy blood line is too thin with Maria SHRIVER ya know? Doesn't have one ounce of Kennedy in their blood it seems, at least judging by looks that is.
