Monday, October 31, 2005: A fifth of the workforce employed with Novell might be rendered redundant in a desperate attempt by the software bigwig to improve its dismal financial performance. The company’s financial fiscal ends October 31, and the announcement of the lay-offs is expected soon, as well.

Around half of the workforce cuts are expected at the headquarters of the company in Utah. The rest of the cuts are expected in the operations of the company in Europe. This includes the Linux (SUSE) operations in Germany.

Despite the fact that Novell has realised the tremendous potential of the Linux operating system and open source software, some SUSE developers might find themselves out-of-job in the lay-offs.

There are major cuts expected in the consulting division of Novell, as well. The division has been performing moderately in the recent past. It is expected that around 1000 staff-members may be affected by the lay-offs. The total strength of employees working with Novell is 5800.

1. Yep, when management fucks up, FIRE THE WORKERS!!!
Wretched. Unbridled corporatism armed with taxpayer gift cards courtesy of the Lancelot Link administration. God forbid any of these shitheads take even a cent cut in pay.

2. name that chimp
Major props for coming up with Lancelot Link a too often forgotten cultural phenomenon.Only problems-Lance worked for A.P.E.( agency to prevent evil) as opposed to this crew which seems the agency to propagate evil, and Lance was much much smarter than our chimp, better looking too.Still major props.
