Associated Press

WASHINGTON - A conservative organization has filed a complaint against Sean "Diddy" Combs, contending the hip-hop mogul violated election law in his 2004 "Vote or Die" campaign by promoting Democrat John Kerry and opposing President Bush.

The National Legal and Policy Center, which filed the complaint, said Tuesday that the Federal Election Commission informed the group in a letter that it would review the complaint.

A call to the FEC was not immediately returned.

1. How about an FEC complaint about all those churches that
used masses to tell people to vote Republican? If Vote or Die violated election law, then those churches should be held accountable too.

In its complaint, the National Legal and Policy Center cited "Vote or Die" rallies sponsored by Citizen Change in which actor Leonardo DiCaprio urged the crowd to back Kerry. The conservative group said public record backs its claim that Combs and Citizen Change undertook a campaign to defeat Bush and elect the Democrat.

7. Diddy a/k/a...
Maybe these tools will have a hard time nabbing Diddy. He can always blame Puffy or P. Diddy or..

On a serious note, what are they trying to accomplish. i can see trying to enjoin him before the election to stop what you see is an unfair practice.
What can the FCC do, fine him? Probably pocket change for Diddy and he'll enjoy the notoriety.

8. I always thought that Diddy could be more vocal with candidate supports
As someone who still catches shows in MTV I saw alot of the "Vote or Die" campaign and Diddy himself never really talked about which party to vote for - just to vote.

But it's a known fact that Diddy is a democrat AND he's got kids all across the country who follow him and his act. He might not be Oprah but I know if he got more vocal about which candidate to support it could help us in the long run.

Diddy may be a punkass gansta rapper (or whatever), but he's also given alot back to the communities

Conservative group files FEC complaint against 'Diddy'

WASHINGTON (AP) — A conservative organization has filed a complaint against Sean "Diddy" Combs, contending the hip-hop mogul violated election law in his 2004 "Vote or Die" campaign by promoting Democrat John Kerry and opposing President Bush. The National Legal and Policy Center, which filed the complaint, said Tuesday that the Federal Election Commission informed the group in a letter that it would review the complaint. Ian Stirton, a spokesman for the FEC, said the matter would remain confidential until resolved. Stirton said the FEC receives numerous complaints and it would be up to the commission to decide whether to proceed with an investigation or not.

Combs, through his organization, Citizen Change, traveled to several cities last year urging people to sign up and vote. He declined to endorse either candidate during his push to register new voters.
Aboard his private jet, dubbed Air Force Change, he told The Associated Press at the time that "Kerry isn't smart enough" and should be spending more time in the inner city to "see how a young kid is going to school." As for the president, he said: "You don't see Bush taking the time to go to BET or MTV. Nobody was talking to this community. I deal with them every day." In its complaint, the National Legal and Policy Center cited "Vote or Die" rallies sponsored by Citizen Change in which actor Leonardo DiCaprio urged the crowd to back Kerry. The conservative group said public record backs its claim that Combs and Citizen Change undertook a campaign to defeat Bush and elect the Democrat.

"We feel these are clear-cut violations," said Peter Flaherty, president of the center. Alexis McGill, executive director of Citizen Change, said the group is proud of what it accomplished and hoped that other organizations would embrace its efforts to bring in new voters.

10. Not that I'm a big Diddy fan
But Citizen Change advocated for Kerry as Fundie groups supported Bush. Are they sure they want to open that can of worms?

17. Diddy never openly supported anyone or allied with liberal groups
He did say something anti-bush one time last year, but it had nothing to do with his GOTV drive.

14. If you're going to complain about it,
complain about the fact that it was so damned cheesy that few people took it seriously.

15. If "Diddy" would of supported Bush
there would not be a lawsuit against him.

That's sad.

16. One more way that the Repukes
...are trying to suppress the black vote. They are intimidating him just as sure as the KKK did in the Jim Crow south.

Kanye West was right...Bush is against black people and this proves it.

18. What next? An indictment of the Beastie Boys and Eminem?
Someone get Gene Simmons, Toby Keith and Ted Nugent on the phone, and ask where to serve the legal papers...they need the same treatment.

They all, uh, "rocked" for Bushie and his cast of nasties.

19. Funny, I remember being disappointed Diddy DIDN'T endorse Kerry......
I thought the whole "Vote or Die" campaign was markedly bipartisan in it's approach to encourage young people to vote.
