1. Yes, this is the death the
Iraqis were celebrating in the streets over. One reporter said there was a third attack on the troops during the coverage of the downed helicopter, I can't find any follow up on that.

2. Funny how people do not like to be ruled by someones army.
Wonder where the War like GOP were when we learned that? I grew up in a GOP home and War was very much hated. What happened that all can be fixed by war?Greed has taken over value I guess.

4. "BRING EM ON", cried the Cowardly AWOL Chimpanzee
Apparently in addition to "throwing flowers" ---- "dancing in the streets" is also in Fashion, when this happens.

3. This poor guy's death will be overlooked
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 07:02 AM by marshallplan
At least 14 dead in the Chinook downing. He's still just as dead and his family will still be just as devastated.

God this sucks so much. I feel like crying.

5. Kick
This story seems to have gotten buried, given the news about the more numerous deaths in the helicopter incident.

What a horrific day.

6. Yes it's a sad commentary
Even here on DU there are numerous responses on the helicopter, and tragic as it is, there is still this man and countless others that haven't got the attention they deserve.

7. CENTCOM confirms
Hadn't seen this link posted yet, so here goes:

http://www.centcom.mil/CENTCOMNews/Casualty_Report.asp?CasualtyReport=20031102.txt

What a horrible day. 18 dead, and it's only November 2. I shudder to imagine the death count come Thanksgiving time. :-(

9. I talked to Dad today.
He said, "What, you think this is the worst? There's so much more to come, and it's just getting started. Buck up, girl."

11. here are the statistics for 'Nam
http://www.archives.gov/research_room/research_topics/vietnam_war_casualty_lists/statistics.html

I don't care what anyone wants to call this - what I see is that none of that matters.

I have many female friends that do not have male counterparts - those guys were either killed or were unable to have relationships that worked after being in Vietnam.

I fear the destruction of yet another generation's hopes and dreams.

12. History Repeats Itself. Why can't we learn that lesson?
I know, and I'm thankful, that SO many DUers saw this tragic train wreck comin', and took to the cold late-winter streets in protest.

Yet, here we are again. Isn't it fascinating? Upsetting? Nauseating? That we're back here again? How many names will be etched on that memorial, in the future? Will that make it all "OK"?

This is the worst day of the "war" for me so far. The absolute worst.

In tears,
Jennifer

14. the "pit of dread"
in my stomach has not left since * took office.

In March 2001, I protested his appearance with a sign that said:

Bush = Debt and Destruction

I knew then that he would lead this country into war and deficit.

It only gets worse - I will vote for a blind pig if that is all that runs against him in Nov 2004.

15. Go look at the deaths per year....
The chart is on the link above. It appears that the deaths numbers started out VERY much like Iraq. This is scary...is today just a bad day or is it the start of something else? Will days like this become common that we stop even noticing?

16. it will be covered with
all the "progress" reports and the "will" of the resident -

we (the people) will continue to supply our children into the machine and sixteen years will go by and we will have lost more than can be told. :(

10. Has anyone seen Jane Arraf of CNN since this morning?
She was at the Fallujah crash site, broadcasting from a rooftop because she feared her videotape would be confiscated by CENTCOM.

Given this is the big Iraqi resistance day, I assumed we'd hear about more attacks, but nothing new since this morning. Have the media outlets been shut down?

13. Well, alg0912, it's been a SLOW NEWS DAY.
I started a discussion in GD about the lack of media coverage today.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=635312&mesg_id=635312

Isn't it nauseating? Gee, when the last "worst" day in Iraq happened, the day Jessica Lynch was taken hostage, it was wall-to-wall coverage. Today, we get Laci Peterson biographies, and news of the forthcoming marriage between Lenny Kravitz and Nicole Kidman.

I'm so sickened, there are no more words to describe it.
