Bush faces fiery welcome
This Wednesday Guy Fawkes will share his perch on bonfires with a man who, his critics say, poses as great a danger as the 17th-century conspirator once did.

Anti-war campaigners will prop grinning effigies of George Bush on to pyres around the country, hoping to stoke up opposition to his state visit to Britain this month.

The gesture is an apt one, for the US president can expect pyrotechnics when he arrives on November 19. Protesters angered by the invitation hope it will backfire on the government; George Galloway MP has described it as "sheer political madness".

Activists say it is galvanising opposition to the occupation of Iraq, and demonstrators will travel from across Europe to join the protests in London.

40. That's why there'll be no US coverage of this "focus group" either.
Unless there is violence or rioting, US media will stay away. It probably won't even get covered in Chimps daily briefing. They want to keep him in the dark, and they've done a great job of that so far.

5. My favorite quote from the article:
"If we can help sabotage George Bush's election campaign, so much the better. We want to send a message to all the people of the world - I think our best defence against a terrorist outrage is having a huge demonstration."

Hahaha! Gotta love those Brits.

and don't blame the people (saw that on PBS Friday night). If this country puts him in office in 04, they will think ALL americans are idiots! Maybe all of the simple minds of the right will have something to think about.

36. Doubt I'll be able to make it
I attended 6 anti-war demos before Saddam fell, 4 in London, 1 in Colchester and 1 in Sheffield but I doubt that I could make it to this one. Besides, I support a UN takeover and that is something which chafes with the people I know who are still active in the anti-war movement, they want complete withdrawal which I think is a bad idea.

Patsy - 'It's not so much a conviction, darling. It's more of a strong belief.'

34. My Favorite Line is When Patsy Gets Stopped at Customs
for trying to bring cocaine into the country. The official confiscates the package, leaves, and returns ten minutes later. He looks at her, says "It's a harmless white powder. You are free to go" and walks out again. Patsy looks stunned, then runs after him, yelling "Come back here! I paid 500 pounds for that!"

19. Hmmm. I wonder if bu$h's handlers will be able to
keep accounts of his being burned in effigy away from his chimpy little ears. He says he doesn't pay much attention to the news, but I'll bet this rattles his cage!

Cue the Creedence:

Last night
I saw a fire burning on
The palace lawn.
O’er the land
The humble subjects watched in mixed
Emotion.

Chorus:
Who is burnin’?
Who is burnin’?
Effigy.
Who is burnin’?
Who is burnin’?
Effigy.

Last night
I saw the fire spreadin’ to
The palace door.
Silent majority
Weren’t keepin’ quiet
Anymore.

Chorus

Last night
I saw the fire spreadin’ to
The country side.
In the mornin’
Few were left to watch
The ashes die.
