Rat poison? don't know what you're talking 'bout gov.

Unfortunately, her dad was Tory Chancellor, so she'll probably love him.
Love that bit about the Thai mice though. Down with the mouse-killer!

2. Oh, I'm so disappointed
But then again, I feel her recipes are overrated. I have a couple of her books, and they're just so-so.

Maybe she should make him her Coca-Cola ham and cherry pie? (From her White Trash Dinner in How to Eat.)

6. You have no idea then.
Another stereotype that is out of date. English food is not bland anymore. I've been lucky enough to travel all over the place and I love English food.

Come over, I'll cook some English food for you and I guarantee it won't be bland.

7. Thanks
"Another stereotype that is out of date. English food is not bland anymore."

My best friend is head chef at an AA rosetted restaurant. His food, based on classic English dishes, is far from bland and yucky.

9. Of course it's not bland!!! England "borrowed" the taste from...
the world, just how they borrowed tea! Tea Leaved do not grow in England! They got them from Asia and the warmer climates! A great deal of English culture is borrowed!

And?

The thing with British colonialism is that the cultural exchange went both ways.

And then when immigration really started up in a big way in the 50's we accepted people from all over the world, everyone of whom contributed to the modern British culture.

Speaking as a first generation Brit, I'm proud of that fact.

I'm proud of the fact that immigrants to Britain can contribute to the national identity so much so that Chicken Tikka Marsala can be considered a national dish alongside Fish & Chips and Pie, Mash & Liquor.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Progressive1 was an American, talking about "borrowing" from other cultures. :)

12. Speaking as someone from a totally homogenous nation
we must try to stick to our native arts and not steal from others. Now where'd I put my beaver pelt?

We're not like the Americans at all. They pronounce it Zee, we pronounce it Zed. Could we be any more different?

24. Hey, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay
I sleep all night and I work all day
I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers
I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars

19. Stolen?
How does one steal cuisine?

Muppets. A bunch of muppets. You have no clue what you're talking about so you dredge up something about the Empire because it's trendy to bash.

22. Huh?
"The sun doesn't set on the english empire."

The English empire existed in the 10th century and extended as far as Normandy.

You need to brush up on you history, mate.

16. Time to boycott her show!!
We oughta make a spectacle of her -- if she wants to play with evildoers. she's either 'with us or against us'!

BOO NIGELLA!

It's one thing for the regular chefs/cooks to have to do their jobs; it's quite another for a public figure to SUPPORT BUSH.

21. Relax.....
....the comment was not meant to start any kind of anti-British or empire-bashing thread. Geez....lighten up!

And yes, I have been to London (loved it!) and tried the food. Sorry, still stand by my original comment :P Also, one of my aunts is married to a Brit and her cooking is awful. Of course, that could just be a family thing }(
