Clark bludgeons Bush in Keene
By MIKE KALIL
Special to the Reformer
KEENE, N.H. -- To a crowd of mostly students and blue-collar workers, Democratic presidential hopeful Gen. Wesley Clark attacked the Bush administration on all fronts Monday night in a question-and-answer forum.

"I never thought our country would be in the shape it is today," he said. "I can't stand what's happening to this country."

Though Clark had plenty to say about Bush, he didn't attack any fellow Democratic candidates.

"I don't attack Democrats," he said. "I know some people do it and I know it's encouraged by some."

Clark may have gotten the biggest round of applause of the night when he said he would suspend provisions of the Patriot Act -- which many people have criticized as being unconstitutional. However, he also said that tools similar to this can be helpful during times of need.

3. Sounds like a little double talk here
"Clark may have gotten the biggest round of applause of the night when he said he would suspend provisions of the Patriot Act"

"However, he also said that tools similar to this can be helpful during times of need."

I guess it just depends on who determines what is a time of need.

4. Not every provision in the Patriot act affects your civil rights
Clark said he would immediately suspend those and start a public debate about the rest - if and when it's needed. (there are provisions about tracking funds and other things that could make sense to keep - no one ever read the whole thing - well, Clark seems to have done it)

5. I don't oppose Clark. I just made an observation and am happy to hear
someone, anyone, say they want to change or eliminate the Patriot Act. Good on him for that. I just found it odd that he said he wanted to change it but in the next breath said it was also a useful tool.
