Infomercials Start Airing This Week

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean will be on Iowa's television airwaves this week with 30-minute infomercials.

The former Vermont governor will use the ads to present his views on several key issues.

The infomercial is an edited version of a town meeting that Dean held in Sioux City earlier this year.

4. that's probably it
If I recall correctly, the ads in Texas were part of a big announcement with lots of fanfare, too.

Trippi does an excellent job of building excitment, but sometimes it is about things that aren't really that big. Personally, I'm not expecting Thursday's announcement to be earth-shattering.

8. I'm wondering if thirty minutes might not be too much at one sitting
I don't know but I would find it hard to sit through a thirty minute commercial. I know it isn't really a commercial but infomercial is still almost the same thing and thirty minutes is a long time. I would rather it be six ten minute spots all with different talking points. The odds seem better that more people will see at least some of what he has to offer. I don't have a say though so all I can do is wish him well. The same as I would any of our candidates.

9. He should start with the bio on HowardDean.tv...THAT'S a great piece.
Kerry did a 15 or 20 minute "On the road with Kerry" piece a few months ago that was very good, too. Both spots show the candidates as people, not just politicians and wold do a LOT toward gaining support from average voters, I believe.
