Lawmaker Wants Bush and Cheney Censured

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 5:13 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., called Tuesday for Congress to censure President Bush and Vice President Cheney, saying they misled lawmakers on the decision to go to war in Iraq.

Conyers, the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, introduced resolutions creating a panel to investigate the Bush administration's handling of the Iraq war and separate measures censuring Bush and Cheney.

Conyers, releasing a staff report on the buildup to war, cited ''substantial evidence the president, the vice president and other high-ranking members of the Bush administration misled Congress and the American people regarding the decision to go to war in Iraq.''

in Michigan yesterday suggesting, at the very least, an inquiry into the web of lies spun by this administration.

6. Isn't it funny how us on the Blogs knew about Conyers plan, so by the time
the NYT and others in the MSM pick it up, it always feels like old news? :eyes:

9. Conyers is such a thorn in bush's side.
May it fester and fester and cause Little Boots great and extreme anguish unto the end of his days.

12. I can understand settling for censure...
...but the effect will be to abandon any hope of impeachment, and that will help escuse similar abuses of power in the future.

16. No it won't - see here:

New website linked to afterdowningstreet.org, Conyers

The AfterDowningStreet.org coalition, an alliance of over 100 grassroots organizations, has launched a new campaign called CensureBush.org in order to support new legislation introduced by Congressman John Conyers that would censure President Bush and Vice President Cheney and create a select committee to investigate the Administration's possible crimes and make recommendations regarding grounds for impeachment.

19. I think Mr. Conyers is just biding his time, getting
his ducks in a row, and then he'll pounce. I have the highest regard for him!

14. I love John Conyers
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 07:32 PM by Patsy Stone
I'll scream it from the rooftops.

The AP piece included this sentence which troubles me:

"In June, Conyers held a public forum to discuss the so-called Downing Street memo. Recounting a meeting of Prime Minister Tony Blair's national security team, the memo says the Bush administration was determined to use intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the ouster of Saddam Hussein."

No, no my friends. It says much more than that:

"C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. The NSC had no patience with the UN route, and no enthusiasm for publishing material on the Iraqi regime's record. There was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action."

Not just WMD, but the conjunction of that to terrorism. Thus, the forged documents.

It also failed to mention that even back in Spring/Summer 2002, "There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable." Meaning, they already made up their minds, and needed to find a way to get it done.

It's nice to see the AP with the story, finally, but they could have actually read the DSM, don'tcha think?

Please point out the 'slap on the wrist' part, and the part that has anything to do with Lieberman.....
