Lugar supports hearings on secret domestic spying order

Indiana - Indiana Senator Richard Lugar says he supports congressional hearings to look into President Bush's contention that he had constitutional and congressional authority to authorize domestic wiretaps without a court order.

Lugar was among four senators who said Tuesday that hearings are called to investigate the president's domestic spying order, which was issued after the September 11th attacks.

Lugar, whose chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, says Congress made many concessions in the first few weeks after the 2001 terror attacks because the nation was under attack. The Indiana Republican says Congress now needs to look into the president's domestic spying order.

Democratic Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois says he agrees with Lugar that in the New Year Congress will focus on assessing presidential powers in wartime.

1. Yo Senators - Make a Nike Commercial!
JUST DO IT. Stop blathering and posturing about how you support this or that, just fucking do it. Surely to god dick you got enough horsepower in the Senate to make it happen. Stop with the passive tone, take action now.

2. Lugar's constituents
might want to ask him by what authority he can concede the constitutionally protected rights of Americans to the pResident.

4. Lugar supports a dog and pony show!
This useless piece of Hoosier merde has done nothing but to rubber stamp whatever Bush has wanted. What they are offering is nothing but a dog and pony show to make people think that Congress is doing its job. What they should be doing is holding impeachment hearings in the House.

Is definately not to be trusted to do the right thing. His focus is all GOP all the time. In the end he will always vote party line.

11. Lugar is on the Foreign Relations Committee....
and Specter is on the Judiciary Committee. ANd it will have to be investigated by the Intelligence Committeee... So, I would think there is going to be a longer lifespan for this investigation than the White House would wish for...
