...OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY ON MONDAY...
AN INTENSE UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE EAST FROM
THE CENTRAL U.S. THROUGH TONIGHT. AS IT DOES...UNSEASONABLY WARM AND
MOIST AIR WILL CONTINUE TO BE TRANSPORTED NORTHWARD INTO GEORGIA.
WIDESPREAD SHOWERS WITH A FEW THUNDERSTORMS CAN BE EXPECTED
TONIGHT...AS THIS UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM MOVES EAST AND A WARM FRONT
LIFTS NORTHWARD ACROSS THE STATE. PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL WILL
ALSO BE POSSIBLE.
A COLD FRONT WILL APPROACH THE AREA FROM THE WEST ON MONDAY. AS
TEMPERATURES WARM INTO THE MID 60S TO LOWER 70S...ADDITIONAL
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE
FRONT. INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL WIND SHEAR ARE FORECAST TO BE
QUITE STRONG. ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP WILL LIKELY BE SEVERE
WITH LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS LIKELY. THUNDERSTORMS ON MONDAY
ARE ALSO LIKELY TO CONTAIN ROTATING UPDRAFTS...ALSO KNOWN AS
SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS. THESE STORMS PRODUCE VERY LARGE HAIL TO
THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS AND SOMETIMES SPAWN TORNADOES.
RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA ARE URGED TO
MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND CONDITIONS. REVIEW YOUR SEVERE
WEATHER SAFETY PLAN FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY. KNOW WHERE TO
GO WHEN A TORNADO WARNING IS ISSUED OR A TORNADO IS SIGHTED.
STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER
DETAILS OR UPDATES ON THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SEVERE WEATHER
SITUATION.

2. Hi Grannie....
this morning on The Weather Channel, they were saying your area (specifically Mobile to Tallahassee) would be a hot spot for severe storm activity today. Be careful!

I don't think they have spotted any yet, but a cold front is moving in on that warm air.

Or I'm going to be worrying about you all day!

4. Nope
this house is built on a slab, flat as a pancake. It's into the bedroom closet with two babies and two dogs, if the siren goes off!

9. No, not a basement in town
water table is too high.

But our tornadoes tend to come down from the sky and pop right back up. They usually don't travel long distances. And I live in a hilly, wooded area, with little cleared spaces. So I just keep on the local TV station. I've hit the closet before and can do it again. One time a tornado went right over the house but didn't touch down.

6. These came through St. Louis this morning
5:30am woken up by the Tornado Sirens. It was 67 degrees in the predawn hours and we had a Tornado Warning on January 2nd! Yah, nothing screwy with the weather, nothing to see here. *smacks her forehead*

10. Just looked at
The storm prediction center's data maps...lotta lift in the atmosphere so the potential IS very, high.

Be safe Granny and keep an eye on the local TV station.
