Afghan Teacher Beheaded For Educating Girls
Afghan Teacher Beheaded For Educating Girls

POSTED: 9:19 am EST January 4, 2006

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- A school teacher has been found decapitated in Afghanistan, murdered by suspected Taliban militants protesting the education of girls.

The decapitated body of Malim Abdul Habib was found Wednesday in his home in Qalat, a town in Zabul province about 80 miles northeast of Kandahar, said Ali Khail, a spokesman for the provincial government. Assailants were believed to have broken into his house and killed him late Tuesday.

Habib was a teacher at Shaikh Mathi Baba School, a high school attended by both boys and girls.

Zabul education director Nabi Khushal blamed the Taliban, saying the insurgents have occasionally put up posters around Qalat demanding girls' schools be closed and threatening to kill teachers.

How many girls do you think would be being educated were the Taliban still in charge in Afghanistan? Zero. May this brave teacher rest in peace.

27. We let the Taliban take charge and then helped them stay there.
Like Iraq and like so many other places.. we helped screw them at some point to get them were they are today.

I can only think of the history and if we had actually stayed and gave a shit about Afghanistan instead of leaving to start the illegal war and occupation of Iraq (Kabul is about the only "safe" place for westernism). The amount of troops we have their now is frankly a travesty.

The teacher was very barve and does very much deserve warm thought.

42. Try reading "Charlie Wilson's War" -- really outrageous...
how one Rep. was able to have an unparalleled impact on the Afghan (vs. USSR) war. He sat on the committee that provided the funds, and knew an agent inside the CIA who was gung-ho to do the same things he wanted done. They basically formulated an important component of US foreign policy on their own, and ended up training and equipping all those "freedom fighters" who later turned their USA-supplied expertise and weapons on the US.

Where do you think those Taliban assholes (and other assorted fundie warlords) came from? They are the former resistance to the Soviet Union which Pakistan and Saudia Arabia founded with our enthusiastic encouragement in the 80s. We even recruited holy warriors from fucking American mosques! YOU helped with the $5 billion plus that went to the bin Laden construction company to fortify Tora Bora, and pay for fundie jihadist textbooks. Since Binny was invited because he brought his own money and contacts, most of US direct support went to Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, who made his bones in the 70s throwing acid in the faces of female university students. The CIA fucking well knew about this, and its agents watched with aplomb when he burned girls' schools and killed the teachers--they were send out by those godless commies, donchaknow.

Edited. 80s, not 60s.

31. You bet it's our fault.
Twice now, we've handed over the people of Afghanistan to these bastards.

And of course CIA knew then and they knew now.

And BushCO couldn't care less, then or now.

7. Elite troops bound for Afghanistan
The Canadian Forces is sending up to 100 commandos from its elite Joint Task Force 2 to Afghanistan this month, the largest contingent of special forces Canada has ever sent overseas, the National Post has learned.

Between 75 and 100 soldiers of JTF-2 will arrive just ahead of a 2,000-member Canadian battle group that is deploying to the restive southern province of Kandahar amid growing warnings of high casualties and a looming enemy offensive in the region.

The international community could leave and just let these Taliban insurgents take over. No doubt education for girls would be banned, removing the need to execute teachers.

Education of teachers leads to radical thoughts like evolution, separation of church and state and subversive belief that G.W. Bush is not in constant communication with Jasus. Sex ed is a scary thing, as well.....It would tend to point out that filato (see slick Willie) might not be so bad, and certainly not important enough to listen to Limbaugh,Hannuty, et al rave about for hours on end .

35. Headteacher decapitated by Taliban

Declan Walsh in Islamabad
Thursday January 5, 2006
The Guardian

Suspected Taliban militants have beheaded a headteacher in central Afghanistan, the latest in a string of gruesome attacks on teachers working in schools where girls are taught.

Armed men burst into the home of Malim Abdul Habib in Qalat, the capital of restive Zabul province, on Tuesday night. They dragged him into a courtyard and forced his family to watch as they cut off his head, said Ali Khel, a local government spokesman.

Mr Habib was head of Shaikh Mathi Baba, a coeducational secondary school with 1,300 pupils. Threatening notices calling for an end to the education of girls had been pinned to shop walls in the town in recent months but Mr Habib was not thought to have been directly targeted.

Hundreds of students attended his funeral yesterday. "Only the Taliban are against our girls being educated," Mr Khel said.

Headmaster Is Decapitated By Extremists in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Extremists broke into the home of a headmaster of an Afghan school and beheaded him while forcing his wife and eight children to watch, the latest in a spate of attacks blamed on the Taliban that have forced many schools to close.

The insurgents contend that educating girls defies the tenets of Islam, and they oppose government-funded schools for boys because they teach subjects besides religion. The Taliban militia was ousted from power in the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.
