U.S. serviceman admits killing Japanese woman in Yokosuka

A U.S. serviceman from the U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk has admitted killing a 56-year-old Japanese woman in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, informed sources said Thursday, citing investigations by the U.S. forces in Japan.

More than one U.S. serviceman were taken in custody, including the one who admitted killing the woman, the sources said.

She was on her way to work when she was attacked and severely beaten, and died from loss of blood with rupture of her internal organs, the police said.

4. The timing is awkward, what with 4 or 5 enlisted men awaiting trial

in the Philippines for abducting a woman in Alongapo, gang-raping her in a van, and throwing her out of it as it sped through a town there.

That case would have never come to trial had her parents not been very prominent Phillipine citizens in the area.

They also have problems controlling themselves in South Korea, occassionally getting into the news here over it. I think it's a natural manifestation of some strange attitude our slower Americans have developed, believing that because we have vastly more weapons than the rest of the world altogether, we must be superior to everyone else. Right-wingers help perpetuate the sickness with their conspicuous contempt and hatred of "foreigners."

5. Since I spent 24 years

in the military, does that me me slow? I worked law enforcement over seas for 20 of those years. The military is a reflection of the society from which it comes. Thank god for the most part our military is much better behaving. It has been my experience that our military does not cover up crimes that happens overseas, in fact most countries will let the military take jurisdiction of a case because they know the military's punishiment will be harsher.

But I was under the impression that the US military rarely let the local authorities prosecute any US personnel. Like for instance the case of the US plane that cut the cable in Italy, causing 20 dead people.

When has the US ever allowed local prosecution?
