Israel's Sharon 'out of surgery'

Israel's Sharon 'out of surgery'

Israel's Ariel Sharon has undergone seven hours of surgery following a major stroke, and is now in a severe but stable condition, doctors say.
Doctors managed to stop bleeding in the prime minister's brain, the director of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem said.

"He is stable. All his signs are within normal limits but his condition is severe," Shlomo Mor-Yosef said.

A Cabinet meeting began as the statement was made, with Deputy PM Ehud Olmert assuming Mr Sharon's powers.

1. Let us pray for the survivors of this man who caused so much pain
and anguish for decades.

2. He'll have to resign
I didn't like this guy at first, and I still disagree with a lot of his policies, but I admired him for standing up to the extremists in his own party and initiating the Gaza pullout. I think that took a lot of courage, especially given the pictures of all those drama queens who insisted on being pulled away by the soldiers with the cameras running. He talked a militant game, but he was not opposed to sitting down at the table with the Palestinians.

Now we need to be concerned about the Bibi Netanyahu crowd staying out of power. They are very dangerous folks.

4. I don't think he's gonna make it
Either way he is out of the picture, you are right. And I share your concerns. It's a strange turn of events when I actually perfer Sharon to a lot of the possible alternatives, but there you are.

It seems the stress of breaking from Likud really took it's toll on him, from reports I've read.

3. I wish him peace, and an easy death....

Nonetheless, the world will be a better place when the murderous bastard rots in the ground, but I pray that his passage will be easier than the hell he brought to others.

Here is the tip of the iceberg, for those unfamiliar with Sharon's history of terror and oppression: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabra_and_Shatila_massacre

6. Surviving the surgery is one thing........
.....but even if he lives, chances are the damage from this severe of a hemmorhage will make his continued political career all but impossible.

That being the case, we better pray to God that Labor wins this next election. I'm no fan of Sharon, but Netanyahu is even worse. He's one of the authors of this sickening Likud/PNAC doctrine.

They don't use Diebold machines in Israel do they? :scared:

7. End of a career.
Should he survive, I really doubt he will be back to his old self. A stroke of this magnitude will require months, if not years, of recovery. He will not be able to be a functioning PM.

As scary as Netanyahu is, I really don't think he has much of a chance, at least not if I have been reading current Israeli polls correctly. However, a vacuum could be a real possibility and that could paralyze further negotiations.

As for your comment about Diebold in Israel...BITE YOUR TONGUE (and pray they don't have them)!

8. I just hope you're right about Netanyahu
because that would be going from bad to worse, much worse.

12. Hey, THIS progressive is delighted.
It means he'll be around to eventually stand trial for his crimes. What's not to be happy about?

16. Much to the chagrin of anyone who loathes terrorists.
I will mourn Sharon's passing with all the vigor that was put into Arafat's passing, as they are two sides of the exact same coin.

Its all over for Sharon, no matter what else.

14. Sharon era is over
PM's political career over, but Israel's democracy can handle it

<snip>

"It is unclear how Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will end this night, but one thing is clear: The era of Sharon's control over Israeli politics has drawn to its end, for better or for worse, at Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital.

Following the prime minister's stroke, nothing will bring him back into the political game: Not the surging popularity, not the concern and aching heart of the public, and not even the waves of sympathy.

Even if Sharon is able to function, national responsibility will require him to retire from political life and withdraw his candidacy for the post of prime minister."

10. Good night, P.M. Sharon.
I wasn't a fan, but you're still a human being. Peace to you, and your citizenry.

11. Give the guy a break
OK the butcher of Shatila was no Rabin but he's in Intensive care after major neurosurgery, the poor sod will probably not make it anyway.

Even if he survives he will not make anything like a full recovery and will be severely crippled. So for once can't you express pity for him. It's more than he deserves but gloating over his fall makes you sound like the repukes you despise.

13. Maybe his condition - if he lives - will humble him.
Perhaps he'll start to understand the gravity of all the terrible things he's done.

That would be an amazing turn of events. You never can tell, sickness can change someone radically.

But he'll still have to be held accountable for his crimes. So here's hoping he makes a speedy recovery, and Labor wins (because 'Bibi' is even worse).

17. We can only hope.
And we can only hope that they show him the mercy that he refused to show them.
