Rice Chastises Russia's Energy Moves
Rice Chastises Russia's Energy Moves
By ANNE GEARAN, AP Diplomatic Writer

Thursday, January 5, 2006
(01-05) 10:11 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accused Russia of using its energy wealth as a political weapon, and warned on Thursday that Moscow must play by international rules if it wants to be part of the global economy.

Rice said it was "ironic and not good" that Russia used gas exports to apply pressure to former close ally Ukraine just as Moscow was assuming the rotating presidency of the Group of Eight economic powerhouse nations.

"It was not a good week from the point of view of Russia's demonstrating that it is now prepared to act ... as an energy supplier in a responsible way," Rice told reporters.

"When you say you want to be a part of the international economy and you want to be a responsible actor in the international economy, then you play by its rules," Rice said.

1. Riiiight!
"When you say you want to be a part of the international economy and you want to be a responsible actor in the international economy, then you play by its rules,"

Just like WE have, right?

The hypocritical self-righteous lies are mind-bogglingly nauseating!

3. So To Be A 'Responsible Actor' You Have To Sell Your Product
far below market rates?

I thought the 'Objectivists' would approve of Russia's ending of a market subsidy. Sometimes I get the impression the GOP/Reich-Wing only thinks the US is entitled to profit from transactions. I wonder how SecState Ayn would respond?

4. I wouldn't know.
About your Rand/Objectivist references, that is, since I think they're mostly corporatist bunk, anyway.

However, with this statement, you're right on target: "I get the impression the GOP/Reich-Wing only thinks the US is entitled to profit from transactions."

8. Russia wanted to drop the very generous subsidy to the Ukraine.
Sounds like a move the World Bank would have recommmended.

2. Gee, she wouldn't be worried that someone might get the idea
of using energy blackmail against us, would she?

6. And of course, WE would never be involved
in price gouging, like Enron did in California. That ugly memory is surfacing right now, with the traders laughing about "granny cooking because her air conditioner" has been turned off.

And it wouldn't be THE same Enron that catapulted Bush into office in 2000, would it?
