Very Good News NDP - 30 seats, Saskatchewan Party - 28 (currently) NDP clearly wins popular votes - 45% to 39% Who says left-wing parties can't win elections?

Good for you. For a prairie place to vote that way gives me hope for the world. My grandma would be very proud.

3. Are Canadian conservatives as evil as our repugs here in the U.S.?? |
|
I was in Quebec a few weeks ago when they had the elections in Newfoundland. I had no idea how horrified to be at their new premier...
I did notice that the conservative paper they had at the hotel (National Post) really sucked, and the liberal-leaning paper (Montreal Gazette) was really really interesting. Can't give an opinion on either of the French newspapers they had, I couldn't read them.

The Montreal Gazette is part of the National Post, part of C. Black.
They get you from good guy bad guy type of action.

If Martin can win any more Federal seats in Alberta that'll be the start. If, though. I'm not too hopeful. Being an NDPer in Calgary, I find myself in the odd position of cheering on the Libs here, as I don't see the ND's picking up anything here ever (although Bob Hawkesworth held an NDP MLA seat here not too long ago). The Libs may have a fair shot at Joe's old seat (Calgary Central - now Calgary North Central / South Central), but don't hold much hope out. Maybe look to Edmonton or Lethbridge for bright spots. Incidentally, where are you in our fine, if nuts province?

The NDP is the institutional ruling party of Saskatchewan. They've already been in power 12 consecutive years, and for many of the years before. Gary Doer is the popular NDP Premier of Manitoba, and the party has been elected there numerous times.
When the NDP wins Alberta, well, that will be something!

The NDP won back to back elections. FWIW, my MLA who is gay, was named to the cabinet yesterday.

Maybe one of our Saskatchewaners has more details.

22. It was created after arguably the most corrupt |
|
provincial government in modern Canadian history, Grant Devine's, demolished the credibility of Saskatchewan's Progressive Conservative party. It's a rebranding and a regrouping of conservative and far-right Alliance-types (the Alliance doesn't have provincial wings) determined to knock off the NDP.
