CNN: NOLA Ninth Ward Residents in Standoff against Bulldozers
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 05:00 PM by bettyellen
CNN Headline News reports there's a hearing scheduled regarding an injunction to stop the the razing on Friday.
But the bulldozers showed up today.
They showed a very brief clip of 9th ward residents gathering in the street to stop the bulldozers.
No other details, nothing up on their website yet.
(mods, i will come back and post a link, as soon as additional reports are up)

3. Just who sent the dozers in, anyway?
Inquiring minds want to know.

"NO" is kind of confusing; it makes it sound like there aren't any Ninth Ward residents in the standoff. "NOLA" or "N.O." might be clearer.

Happens all the time. The city website is "cityofno.com". "City of No". Who's the mayor, David Spade? :-)

5. I want to know too, it's another case of kicking people when they are down
wish i could have captured a screen shot. Quite dissapointing it was such a short blurb.
Thanks for the suggestion to use NOLA. I was al little hung up on quoting the report correctly, and fitting it into the headline.
I hope there's more later on this.

8. So what was really going on? Rubble clearing -- or demolition?
City officials said the workers were clearing rubble from a public sidewalk, saying they have an obligation to do so to make sure it's accessible. But about 30 protesters and residents said that the debris was actually what remains of someone's home.

Police came in to calm tempers, and the workers withdrew under police protection.

Tracie Washington, one of the attorneys involved in the lawsuit, said later the city had agreed to stop all clearing operations in the neighborhood for the day.

The protesters had come straight from a news conference about the lawsuit against the city, after a resident telephoned a lawyer involved in the case to say that she saw bulldozers in the neighborhood.

KamaAina Fair 'N' Balanced News (New Orleans bureau): We report, you decide. :-)

12. Reminds me of the scene in "The Grapes Of Wrath"
where Grandpa levels the shotgun at the guy on the bulldozer. The bulldozer wins anyway and no one cares.
