Fidelity hits Rhode - 1,000 workers moving to Ocean State
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 12:02 AM by ckramer
The financial services giant is preparing to vacate a pair of downtown Boston high-rises over the next few years in a move that could relocate more than 1,000 employees.

Some of these Fidelity workers will likely go to less prestigious, lower-rise buildings controlled by the company in Boston. But others are being eyed for transfers to Fidelity’s Rhode Island campus, where a major expansion — large enough to accommodate 1,000 additional employees — is planned, real estate executives said.

While bad news for Boston, such a move could save Fidelity money, ending expensive Hub tower leases.

But the potential for relocation to Rhode Island has stirred anxiety among Fidelity workers in Boston, where the company employs thousands, industry sources say.

4. Many of the folks who work in town take the commuter rail or
the MBTA (subway.) Folks who live on the North Shore could be in for one helluva commute.

5. I used to work for them in Boston, as far as I know they are still
a private company owned by the Johnson family. Good for Rhode Island, bad for Boston.
