Few Drawn to Illegal Immigration Protests
LOS ANGELES (AP) -

Illegal immigration protests organized across the country Saturday drew small numbers, and some were outnumbered and out-shouted by those who support immigrant rights.

The so-called "Stop the Invasion" protests were organized in 19 states, demanding the government increase border security and penalize employers who hire illegal workers.

"We are keeping the debate on illegal immigration in the forefront of the American consciousness," said Joseph Turner of Save Our State, who was among about two dozen protesters who waved American flags outside a home-supply store in a Los Angeles suburb.

But Turner's group in Glendale was surrounded by more than 100 drum-beating supporters who chanted, "Racists go home." The two groups traded shouts and obscene gestures for more than an hour. One man was arrested for assault, police said.

1. Invasion?
Sure, uncontrolled illegal immigration is a problem, but an invasion?

The irony of the '90s has given way to the hyperbole of our own age. And it's going to destroy us all!

Yeah. Right.

4. I have sympathy for the migrants, but if you could see what
folks who live in the border region see every day invasion is a perfectly good word.

6. No guns? No invasion.
I can understand that watching so many people trying to make it across the border day in and day out could be nerve-wracking, but most of these immigrants are docile -- and unarmed. They think that if they can only get a job in America, they will be rich. It's not an invasion by any means, even if it is unnerving.

But somebody is making money (and it sure isn't the migrants). Otherwise, the immigration would stop dead cold.

7. You think there are no guns? You think the migrants aren't making any
money? Why do you think Fox et al encourages them to come? Millions of dollars are being sent home to Mexico by workers here.

You think its all innocent job seekers? You are very naive, yes the vast majority are good people, just like any population, but just like any population there are also criminals, and I am not just talking about the coyotes or polleros - read this:

Besides even good people, if you have enough of them can ruin the environment - just ask any park ranger.

Then go here and read some more, Leo Banks stuff is the best.

You think we are just sitting on the porch watching folks walk across the desert? PM me if you are really interested in the truth and I will tell you my personal experiences and show you some pictures. And I am far from being heavily affected - I am 50 miles from the border, yet could easily spend full time deasing with this situation, as it is I have to do some other work and spend several days a week on fence repairs and garbage removal. I have sitting by my barn right now 15 abandoned vehicles from this - they are not worth anything but if we don't tow them in, vandals trash them and then you can NEVER get rid of them. Out on the ranch right now are at least 4 more that got destroyed and can't be moved with out a bull dozer or something - great for the desert/landscape eh?
