Congressman wants to know whether government spied on reporters

<snip>

Maurice Hinchey -- an Ulster County Democrat -- this afternoon said he's concerned because of a recent report suggesting the calls of C-N-N reporter Christiane Amanpour may have been intercepted.

Hinchey told a Binghamton radio station (W-N-B-F) that he's aware of no evidence that Amanpour actually was under surveillance. But he said the matter should be investigated.

The congressman called on the Justice Department to review the entire domestic spying program that was revealed last month.

Hinchey compared what's happening now to what happened during the early 1970s. He said the Nixon administration kept some Americans under surveillance -- in his words -- "just because they wanted to."

1. Good for Hinchley!
It's hard to have a "free press" in a country where the government spies on its memebers.

2. I heard him on WAMC, an Albany, NY NPR station
that is actually still fair and balanced. Hinchey was on with Alan Chertok, the executive director who despises what this admin is doing. Hinchey did not mince words: he said what is going on is illegal, dictatorial, and had to stop.

I was so impressed by him, and I wished he was my congressman rather than DWI Sweeney.

5. Hinchey is my Congressman. and
he is one of the most outspoken critics of this administration. He has great support in his district and he got it for really working for his constituency. Honest, hardworking, and really connected to the district. He is also a great speaker.

8. And Hinchey's not alone
Will the corrupt Bush administration respond to the American people, or will they continue to shine all their misdeeds, unaccountable to anyone?
