Louisiana resident files recall petition against Gov. Blanco
http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisiana/index.ssf?/base/news-22/1136910843199510.xml&storylist=louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A formal push to oust Gov. Kathleen Blanco, after harsh criticism of her response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita, began Tuesday when a St. Martinville resident filed a recall petition with Louisiana's elections office.

The task is a tough one: in Louisiana, a recall election requires handwritten petition signatures from at least one-third of the state's registered voters, or about 900,000 people, in 180 days, according to Jennifer Marusak of the secretary of state's office.

-snip-

Kat Landry, a Republican who filed the petition, said the state needs new leadership to recover from the back-to-back blows of the hurricanes that damaged most of the state's coast — and the city of New Orleans — because Blanco has performed poorly.

instead of recalling the real problem with this country, that piece of shit on a stick in the White House, they'll go after Blanco who's been totally upfront and honest about her involvement in the aftermath of Katrina. :eyes:

Just another Republican hypocrite pointing his finger everywhere but where it should be pointed; "W".

They won't let anyone blame the Chimp in Charge for any of the gross failures that occured after this catastrophic event. How convenient to have a Democrat in the Governor's mansion...that way we can continue to live in ignorance.

Exactly what did she do, or didn't do, which makes you come to this conclusion?

Details, not just vague second and third hand stories you might have heard from a friend of a friend of a brother of someone's sister's cousin.

10. Was it the "weepy" and tired appearance?
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 03:50 PM by funkybutt
Most criticisms I've heard seem to be specifically related to her appearance in the days following Katrina. She was "weepy" with bags under her eyes, ect.

Aparently, it's more important to have the APPEARANCE of composure and control than to actually have control or composure. To some extent I agree. But on the other hand, how could she appear to be well rested and confident when she was neither? Is it so bad for a leader to show emotion and lose sleep?

On Edit: Wasnt' Bush "weepy" after 9-11? I do remember so much respect being paid to the fact that he "teared up" at a press conference.

plus the delay in ordering the National Guard,
which is under her command, to enter N.O. after the storm

If Blanko had no intention of giving control of the NG to Bush,
she should have said that immediately, why waste anybodies time

La. Woman Files Governor Recall PetitionLouisiana Woman Files Recall Petition Against Gov. Blanco
Must Gather 900,000 Signatures

The Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. Jan 10, 2006 — A Republican who says she has never worked on a political campaign filed documents Tuesday launching a drive to oust Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who was harshly criticized for her response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Kat Landry, who filed a recall petition with state elections officials, said Louisiana needs new leadership to recover from the storms' back-to-back blows.

"What we have seen in the past few months is a lack of leadership, a lack of communication, a lack of understanding of how to get things done," Landry said.

In Louisiana, getting a recall on the ballot requires petition signatures from at least one-third of the state's registered voters, or about 900,000 people, in 180 days, according to Jennifer Marusak of the secretary of state's office.

16. this will backfire
I mentioned this to some friends of mine who are Louisiana repubs (yeah, I have repub friends, sue me), and they just rolled their eyes. A recall election is an expense the state simply doesn't need now and they say that most people, regardless of party, will get that. Under Lousiana law, the earliest a recall election could be held is October 2006. And if the recall were to succeed, all that would happen is that Mitch Landrieu (Mary's brother), who is the Lieutenant Governor, would become governor. And then a year later, in the fall of 2007, there would be the regularly scheduled gubernatorial election.

So two elections, a lot of expense and distraction, for next to nothing. Actually, from the standpoint of Democrats, having Blanco step down and Landrieu take her spot before the next general election might not be a bad thing..it might strengthen Landrieu's chances of getting elected governor.

19. except that in Louisiana recall elections don't pick replacements
unlike California, all a recall election in Louisiana does is remove the office holder. The next in line of succession fills the vacancy, which would be Mitch Landrieu.

Its just a dumbass repub doing a dumbass thing. The repub party in Louisana should want nothing to do with this if they have a half a brain.

These are times of crisis for Louisiana, and during times of crisis it's important that the little people do as they're told and follow their leaders. Blanco is the governor, and everybody should be rallying around her.

P.S. We need to learn to play this kind of game with words too.

39. mississippi does not have a recall provision -- most states don't
In fact, only 18 states have recall provisions. And for those who think the Democrats should be more aggressive in launching recall efforts, consider the fact that nearly half of these states have Democrats as governors, including several in states that otherwise lean towards the repubs (like Montana and Arizona) so I'm not sure getting into a recall war with the repubs would be a particularly smart move.

46. Remember Davis in California? Enron made an "energy crisis"?
He asked the feds for help. Instead of helping California, they helped Enron price gouge. Then, the RNC turned around and used the so called energy crisis as an excuse to recall him.

Do not dismiss the possibility that FEMA's slow response in NOLA was part of a plan to turn Louisianna into a Red state. Angry voters in California forgot who was to blame and took out their anger on Davis because he was an easy target. The RNC is hoping that Louisianna voters will do the same. Especially since FEMA and the Army Corp of Engineers have made sure that a whole lot of faithful Democratic voters are out of state. A Republican governor can make sure that Diebold or a similar crooked election system gets into the state and turns it red forever.

Look for a lot of absentee votes from NOLA to be challenged by the GOP if this recall goes through. Look for a lot of absentee votes from NOLA to be challenged by the GOP next general election, too.

48. I've been saying the same,
It wasn't just FEMA incompetence even though it was a factor. They witheld aid and then lied about her not letting FEMA in. They even had Rumsfeld involved in that. They also lied about Nagin's 2000 buses. This is partisian use of taxpayer supported programs and I hope Moore's new movie exposes it. None of the mainstream media-pigs will.
