US Army achieves minimal December recruiting goal

WASHINGTON, Jan 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Army, which fell short in recruiting in fiscal 2005, achieved its seventh straight monthly recruiting target in December, albeit the smallest goal of the year, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

With an objective of sending 80,000 recruits into boot camp in the 2006 fiscal year that ends on Sept. 30, the regular Army landed 741 recruits last month, topping its December goal of 700, officials said.

The monthly goal was kept low because the Army does not ship recruits into boot camp in December due to the holidays and counted only recruits with prior military service who do not have to go to basic training, said Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty, an Army spokesman.

"I wouldn't brag too much about this one because it's so small, but it's still seven straight months," Hilferty said.

1. It's also the lowest goal they've had in years!
They kept dropping the goal because of all the bad press revolving around how they were missing the regular goals.

hhmmm, Clinton years - enough military
Bush - not enough.

Go figure.

3. and it's all Representative Jack Murtha's fault
dam that Murtha! Jack Nicholson told me to tell him Marines never cut and run. Unless their combat fatigues get caught on their vehicle in the middle of a Fallujah street and they are under enemy fire. At that point, they grab their knife and cut and then run.

4. Lets see now, they achieved less than 1% of their yearly goal
in December.
Wow, now that is real success...
for the peace movement!

5. Army does not ship recruits into boot camp in December due to the holidays
Since when? I was sent to boot camp on November 22. I was also drafted so maybe they have changed things a bit..
