1. I'm sure they'd do the same for a Democrat.
Appears that the Syndicate is now the State (in a nationalist sense) Party.

7. This is why I think DeLay will still win in November
But on the other hand, I think he will probably call it quits after that. An indicted, former majority leader doesn't have a whole lot of clout in the House.

How about TWO TV stations? Or, how about a whole fucking country full of radio and tv stations, publishing companies, newspapers and magazines?

14. Houston TV stations withhold ads attacking DeLay
HOUSTON (Reuters) - Several Houston television stations withheld a political ad on Wednesday accusing U.S. Rep.
Tom DeLay of corruption after a lawyer for the former House majority leader said the ad was false and could lead to legal action.

The ad, sponsored by public interest groups Campaign for America's Future and Public Campaign Action Fund, calls for DeLay to resign because of his indictment in Texas on campaign finance charges and his links to disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

"All four of the major broadcast stations (in Houston) contacted to air the ad, as well as Time Warner cable, have stated they either will not run the ad or will keep it off the air for further review," according to a statement sent out by DeLay's office.

Some of the stations said during their newscasts they were looking at the ad to determine its credibility or that they had found some of the allegations to be questionable. The ad was supposed to run for a week, starting on Wednesday.

I saw some clip on CNN tonight that showed a reporter with the letter in his hand, saying sonething about threats. I'm surprised that they all buckled under. I know I've seen the damn ad several times aired here in Ga.

17. lawyer said the ad was false and could lead to legal action
a kind of extortion, the threat of litigation

what to do?

have some of our lawyers communicate that failure to air political ads "could lead to litigation" come time for station license renewal?

or have some of our lawyers pull the same trick when DeLay tries to air ads?

or go on a massive publicity campaign naming the stations and reminding their advertisers there are a lot of dems in the area who might not want to patronize those other advertisers on their stations?

or have our lawyers sue DeLay for conspiracy (as a government official) to deny access to the public airwaves by our guys?

they did this to Howard Dean with their billboards. we can't take kind of thing this lying down. suggest gearing up a big law firm to rip into them with serious litigation whenever this kind of thing happens, coupled with a big pr campaign.

we let the media slide, the bad guys get a free ride.

23. Libel Law
As a very, very public figure, a reckless disregard for the truth would have to be shown for DeLay to have a case. He wouldn't be able to get an award, for example, by trying to prove the Russians weren't "tycoons" but rather "oil and gas executives."

No, the t.v. stations in Houston didn't cave...they didn't want to run the ad, and DeLay gave them an excuse not to.

which is why we need to find a way and a price they have to pay for following their proclivities.

Throw in conspiracy to commit fraud.

those were really really questionable and offensive since they accused him of a fedral crime of making false reports during a time of war.

29. Delay Threatens Media Outlets Running Ads Linking Him to Corruption
Rep. Tom Delay Threatens Media Outlets Running Ads Linking Him to Corruption

Source: Campaign for America's Future

Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, is threatening to “sue any station” that runs a new television ad that links him to one of the worst congressional corruption scandals ever. The two public interest groups that joined forces this week to run the ads are vigorously fighting back.

The groups, the Campaign for America’s Future and the Public Campaign Action Fund, unveiled $115,000 in new television, radio and billboard ads targeting Rep. DeLay and Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, for their ties to corruption on a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, kicking off a yearlong campaign to clean up Congress.

KHOU-CBS, one of the stations originally scheduled to run the spot, said that Rep. DeLay “threatened to sue any station” that chooses to broadcast the ad, on in its morning news program.

Campaign for America’s Future co-director Roger Hickey said Rep. DeLay, known as “the Hammer” in Congress, is trying to intimidate Houston television stations in a pointless effort to prevent public discussion ...
