Robertson tries to save Jesusland after Sharon gibe
Pat Robertson, the American televangelist, today appeared to withdraw a diatribe against Ariel Sharon in an attempt to salvage his $50 million plan for a biblical theme park in Galilee.

(snip)

"Robertson pointed to the book of Joel in the Old Testament to show a biblical perspective of God’s view of Israel and efforts made from people who try to divide God’s land.

"In the book of Joel, the prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has ‘enmity against those who divide My land.’ God considers this land to be His. When you read the Bible, He said this is my land. For any Prime Minister of Israel who decides he will carve it up and give it away, God said, "No, this is Mine."

Ms Watts accused rival groups was a 'left-wing political agenda' of lifting her employer's comments out of context to discredit him.

43. Excellent point! It's wrong to give land to Palestinians,

but right to sell land to some kook of a preacher who wants to build a Biblical theme park. I know a lot of people, Christians and Jews, who've visisted the Holy Land and found it a profound experience. People who need a theme park to appreciate the Holy Land should stay home and go to their favorite theme park -- they can always read the Bible while waiting in the long lines or sitting waiting for a ride to start.

30. would it?
Sometimes, I just don't know. I can easily see Katie Couric giggling as she wiggles into her burka. As for the men of the media, they'd love a Christian Taliban in this country. In a fundamentalist environment, the preachers and the deacons have ALL the money and all the fun.

40. Isn't having a "Jesusland" in Israel...
...incredibly insulting to the Jewish people?

I mean, they don't buy into the whole "Jesus as Messiah" thing (which I agree with them on), and there's got to be at least a few Israelis fuming about the idea.

47. It is more like a Jesus version of Disney Land
Leave to us to milk the Christians for every tourist dollar that we can, and why not? They can eat a fish sandwich with tartar sauce on the same site where legend says that Jesus fed the 5,000, and that's without French fries.

The problem are the Christian proselytizers that are living in Israel. They are a disease that must be expunge.

It was heartening to read Avi Hartuv's words that "Israel will not do business" with Mr. Pat Robertson and/or any other evangelicals who endorse what Robertson said.

Thank you, Avi Hartuv!

will bring to the country. They should think about the real reason Robertson and his ilk want a foothold in the country, to convert Jews to Christianity!

7. I hope they stop this Jesusland in Galilee altogether. One of these
theme parks on the face of the earth is more than enough! People of all faiths have been making the pilgrimage to areas of Israel for centuries, and they didn't need no stinkin' theme park to attract them there. Hell, the didn't even need a tourism minister. I don't know what Avi Hartuv was thinking when he first agreed to this monstrosity to begin with, but I'm glad to see him coming to his sense. Perhaps there really is such a thing as "divine intervention".

One of the ports of call was Haifa, Israel. There were tour buses that took people into Jerusalem. It was a walking tour throughout the city. There is no way an automobile will ever get into the walled city of Jerusalem. The streets are too narrow. I enjoyed the tour. It was like stepping back into a historical time warp.

Guess what, Rev Pat. WE DIDN'T NEED NO STINKIN THEME PARK!!!!

34. Yeah and
somewhere in the Bible, didn't Jesus kick a couple of guys out of a church
because they were using the church to sell their stuff?
Like they were selling vases and jewelry and all kinds of stuff inside the church,
and Jesus got mad and kicked them out.

I'm sure this would make Him mad enough to kick these $greedy$ Faux Televangelists
out of his church for exploiting it...............

Tourism Minister Abraham Hirchson said he gave instructions to "stop all contact" with groups associated with Robertson. Last week, Robertson implied Sharon's massive stroke was a blow for "dividing God's land" with the withdrawal from Gaza and four West Bank settlements.

answer every question, about his stupid statements, and opinions until he challenged. And Pat is also non-judgemental, just ask him. Bar none!

A statement published on his website, Mr Robertson appeared to withdraw his comments as the scale of the backlash threatened to harm the venture.

Angell Watts, a spokeswoman for the preacher, wrote: "Robertson has met with Sharon at significant times and considers him a friend. Robertson has been a life long supporter of Israel and has continually expressed grave concern over dividing the land of Israel.

"Robertson pointed to the book of Joel in the Old Testament to show a biblical perspective of God’s view of Israel and efforts made from people who try to divide God’s land.
