Lawyer to defer filing of impeach rap vs Arroyo

INDEPENDENT lawyer Oliver Lozano has decided to defer filing a new impeachment case against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo pending his “consultation meeting” with the opposition group on Monday.

Lozano claimed Thursday that he would be meeting with House Minority Floor Leader Francis Escudero, San Juan Representative Ronaldo Zamora, Iloilo Representative Rolex Suplico, and Parañaque Representative Roilo Golez to discuss the case.

But two opposition lawmakers, who refused to be named, denied Lozano’s claim, saying the meeting was exclusive to members of the House of Representatives since they would be discussing internal matters.

The lawmakers said there was no need to talk to Lozano since the new complaint would be dismissed anyway because of a one-year-ban provision on impeachment. The effectivity of the amended Lozano complaint endorsed by the opposition will lapse in July 2006 ...
