Court rules against sparing (Clarence Ray) Allen (execution)
Court rules against sparing Allen
January 12, 2006

http://www.kesq.com/Global/story.asp?S=4357372&nav=9qrx

SAN FRANCISCO California's oldest condemned inmate lost another legal battle to stay alive when a federal judge today dismissed his claim that executing him next week would be unconstitutionally cruel and unusual.

Attorneys for Clarence Ray Allen have now asked the U-S Supreme Court to block the execution under the same legal theory.

Allen is scheduled to be executed on January 17th at San Quentin State Prison.

Allen is 75 years old, legally blind, nearly deaf, and suffered a heart attack in September.

5. This is the State that executed Caryl Chessman. . .
when Pat Brown was governor. What hope does any other condemned criminal stand in the face of a concerted desire by the State of California to see them killed?

Except for a few years of sanity (when unfortunately Charlie Manson and S.B. Sirhan became the poster kids for spared killers), the State has been gradually slipping towards increased brutality. Now we're going to murder an old, infirm man, already at death's threshold. But don't oppose it because of Allen's condition, or the extenuating circumstances of a Williams. . . stop it because it's wrong.

6. "...stop it because it's wrong." absolutely. thank you posting, Journeyman
you make an important point, in their simply WANTING to kill people. worse, pleading with them for mercy and decency only seems to make them more bloodthirsty.

i am at a total loss as to how to proceed.

one case at a time? state, national moratorium?

this country is...

you know.

peace and solidarity
