Indian tribes worry about proposed restrictions on their casinos
Indian tribes worry about proposed restrictions on their casinos
By JULIET WILLIAS, Associated Press Writer

Friday, January 13, 2006

(01-13) 00:11 PST Palm Springs, Calif. (AP) --

American Indian leaders from around the country on criticized plans by the U.S. Department of Justice to impose tougher rules on electronic bingo games, saying the changes could hurt their casino profits.

The Justice Department proposal includes harsh penalties for operating electronic bingo machines that resemble slot machines. It also requires that players be "actively engaged" in playing the bingo games, unlike with slots.

A Justice Department official said the law is not being changed to restrict tribes. Rather, officials want to update outdated legislation that doesn't address technological advancements, said Tracy Toulou, director of the Justice Department's Office of Tribal Justice.

"We're not trying to shut down Indian gaming," he said.

2. So, does this mean that they've gypped the Indians out of all the money
they can and now that they're wise to republican schemers and liars they're gonna put the clamps on their casinos? From the republican point of view, what good are they now? They promote gambling (which is evil unless Bill Bennet is doing it) and the donations to republican lobbyists bribes to republican Xtian organization are gonna dry up so it's probably time to kick 'em back to the curb, isn't it?

Note: this is not my point of view, but it's what I think that the sleezebags will do to the Indian tribes now that they're done milking them.

3. No, there are plenty of republican "Indians".
Plenty of Christian First Americans, too.

(btw, "gypped" is commonly used, yet racist term much like "spic and span". ;) )

4. Don't read racism in where it doesn't exist. Upon reflection I think that
maybe once upon a time it may have had racist overtones, but like some words and terms, it's lost them and taken on it's own meaning.

I'm not at all in the mood for the language police this morning.

5. I didn't say you were being a racist.

6. I'm sure you're right. Sounds like a little bit of revenge, doesn't it?
They've obviously gone as far as they're going to go with the Native American casinos, and gotten themselves in a lot of trouble for their filthy behavior toward the tribes. I'm sure they intend to give them as much grief as they can muster.

7. Not a doubt in my mind either. Especially since so many of their
lily-white fundie supporters are anti-everything (including gambling except for Bill Bennett as I previously pointed out but thought it was worth repeating).
