AFP Clinton backs Blair as future UN chief
LONDON (AFP) - Former US president
Bill Clinton backed British Prime Minister
Tony Blair as a future secretary general of the
United Nations.

Clinton told BBC television Blair would make a "good" head for the international organisation when he leaves office, as he has indicated he will before the next general election, expected by 2010 at the latest.

The pair -- who became friends during Clinton's time at the White House between 1993 and 2001 -- had discussed Blair's future and Clinton had told him there was "a lot of good you can do in the world" after leaving Downing Street.

He also predicted Blair, 52, would find "immense rewards" when he stood down, particularly from lucrative speaking engagements, books and directorships.

2. Sorry, Bill..tony blair has
lost his credibility with me..he has a lot to answer for and I don't think being the head of the UN is going to be the place where he does it.

5. We all make mis-judgments in assessing others ...
... I guess Bill Clinton is no exception.

I'd be more than happy to see Blair garner 'immense rewards' from speaking engagements, books and directorships - after he serves prison time for lying to his own countrymen, and particpating in crimes against humanity - assuming he'll live long enough to complete his just sentence.

12. Cm'on guys, Clinton was just polite
"Asked if Blair should run for UN secretary general, Clinton, 59, said: "That would suit me. He would be a good one."

what should he have anwsered to such a question ? "No, it would be a terrible mistake"... cm'on

Journalists are making a bird out of a feather

1) Blair will never run for the office
2) he would never be elected

he's going to join the Carlyle group and tour universities, giving conferences for the big bucks. Like Gorbatchev does. Blair is history.

You have a point.

He will join the Carlyle group, won't he? I didn't know Gorbie was a part of that network.

24.  There is no harm in endorsing Blair since the UN will reject him anyway.
You gotta figure Clinton has taken that into consideration.

29. Yeah thats perfect. A U.N. chief that actively goes out and
promotes bombing people! The Middle Eastern delegates would love him. Clinton sure knows how to support us on the liberal left. He want's to put a murderer in charge of the U.N. The world makes absolutely no sense these days.
