Rep. Issa announces candidacy for Republican House leadership post

Friday, January 13, 2006
(01-13) 16:44 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, announced his candidacy Friday for a spot in the House Republican leadership being vacated by one of the contenders to replace Tom DeLay as majority leader.

Issa said he will seek the post of Republican Policy Committee chairman, among the lower spots in the eight-member GOP leadership team but one that would give him a seat in meetings with the House speaker, majority leader, whip and others.

"I think California needs to be represented in the national policy debate," Issa said in an interview. "So much of what needs to be heard in Washington originates in California."

The position has been held by Arizona Rep. John Shadegg, who Friday became a candidate in the race for majority leader, opposing Reps. Roy Blunt of Missouri and John Boehner of Ohio.

1. The twerps are lining up, aren't they?
The nastiest elements of the repug party are vying for this position. Maybe we can lure them on a bus and send them off somewhere far, far away...

5. thats pretty funny and he has the same chance i do of winning that spot
Issa is a total scumbag. I actually talked to him one day when he was on CNN, i asked my question and he started talking points and much to my surprise Wolf Blitzer says "Are you going to answer that callers question or not?" It was about the recall btw.
