18. "What a world, what a world." They all go down the same way: Total denial
of reality. It's amazing. You'd think they'd seen enough dead leaves drop from trees at this point to avoid the cliche "I'm not like the others. I'm gonna hold onto my pathetic little power anthill."

Another successful democratic conspiracy. Where's the beer?

23. Republican urged to stand aside over lobbying
Republican urged to stand aside over lobbying
By Caroline Danielin Washington
Published: January 16 2006 02:00 | Last updated: January 16 2006 02:00

Pressure increased yesterday on Bob Ney to stand down as chairman of the House administration committee, to address growing fears that he will be the next Republican congressman to be ensnared by the growing lobbying scandal.

John Boehner, one of the three Republicans jostling to replace Tom DeLay as the House majority leader after he was forced to step aside in September, told Fox News: "I think Bob Ney has to make some serious decisions about whether he should stay there . . . For the good of the party Bob needs to seriously consider stepping aside."

Mr Boehner, like Mr Ney, represents Ohio. On Friday, Dennis Hastert, the House speaker, led the effort to persuade Mr Ney to step down from the committee that would have oversight of any reforms amid concerns about his ties to Jack Abramoff, the lobbyist who has pleaded guilty to corruption charges. Mr Ney accepted favours, including a golf trip to Scotland and campaign funding from Mr Abramoff.

Concern about the scandal affecting Republican prospects in the mid-term elections this year has made lobbying reform a central issue in the House leadership contest. All the candidates - Mr Boehner, Roy Blunt and John Shadegg - yesterday sought to play down ties to corporate lobbyists.

24. He calls himself ROLAIDS!
I found this in the Ohio forum.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/N/NEY_ABRAMOFF?SITE=OHCOL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2006-01-15-19-13-26

"There's a lot of people that are having some heartburn with all the publicity and if they have heartburn I can be the Rolaids," Ney said in an interview with The Associated Press Radio Network from his home in Heath, Ohio.
