7. God Bless President Ford
Remember, he gave us John Paul Stevens, and he and Betty supported Roe v. Wade and the ERA. He was the last Republican president before the wingnuts took over the party. Michigan Republicans were Main Street Republicans. Just on a personal note, he's my favorite living president. I'm from Lansing, Michigan, 60 miles east of Grand Rapids, and listening to Ford made me think of the old men in my neighborhood.

11. Jerry Ford is a decent man.
Edited on Mon Jan-16-06 07:47 PM by Botany
A true Ford story: When he was President his golden retriever, Miss Liberty, took a crap
inside a house or office that Ford was in at the time. A secret service man or some aid
went to clean it up but Ford stopped him and did it himself. "I never expect another man
to do that for me." He is a far cry from bush. Although i did not like his politics I will never forget
his decency.

16. It's one thing to clean up dog shit
But his plan to fight inflation consisted of wearing cutesy pins which said "WIN" (Whip Inflation Now).

The Recession of 1975 was the worst between the Great Depression and the Reagan Recession of 1982.

More failed Republican economics means he was better at cleaning up dog's shit more than America's shit.

Swine Flu shots, anyone?

A failed mediocrity of a president. History has already swept him into the dustbin.

19. Read my post.
I disagreed w/ him on 80% + politically. But the man has class.

He was an all American center for the University of Michigan & was skiing
double black diamond slopes into his 80s .... and yet he was labeled a klutz
.... He never lashed out as many would have in his position.

Forget politics and labels and try to see that the world is not so black & white.

12. The last good Republican
He was a decent president. A lot of his positions in the 70's were further to the left of many Democrats these days.

Sad how far we've fallen into wingnuttery.

14. Yahoo news story...
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Former President Ford was undergoing treatment for pneumonia Monday at the same facility where he was briefly hospitalized a month ago, his chief of staff said. He was said to be doing well.

Ford, 92, was admitted Saturday to Eisenhower Medical Center near his home in Rancho Mirage in Southern California, Penny Circle said.

"Based on his age it is prudent for his initial course of treatment — IV antibiotics — to be done at the hospital," Circle told The Associated Press.

Ford was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday or Thursday, she said.

23. Something of a stolid bumbler as prez, but let us not forget...
...his more odious pedigree: attempting to impeach the liberal Supreme Court jurist William O. Douglas, attacks on the Great Society programs, calls for more slaughter abroad ("Why are we pulling punches in Vietnam?"), or his pardoning the Trickster.

He is unabashedly pro-choice, which is more than can be said about many Democrats.

On balance, Ford was only a minor blight on American politics. Thank heavens for small miracles.

24. Well, I'd argue Ford is what Bush would be
If there was a Congress like the one back then, that would do it's job and restrain Presidential power.
