Nepal king imposes curfew in Kathmandu

Nepal King Gyanendra's government Monday imposed indefinite curfew in the Kathmandu Valley after a series of attacks by Maoists over the weekend left 12 policemen dead.

The move came almost a year after Gyanendra imposed direct rule in Nepal and had claimed that the security situation had improved considerably.

Curfew from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. till further notice was clamped down in Kathmandu and in key areas of its neighbouring municipality Lalitpur from Monday night with security forces being given the power to shoot people who ventured out during the curfew ...

The government also prohibited protests and rallies in key areas of the valley indefinitely ...
