Cheney, Mubarak discuss Arab Iraq force
U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on possible deployment of Arab forces in Iraq.

Cairo-based Arab diplomatic sources told United Press International that the talks on Tuesday focused on chances of dispatching Muslim and Arab forces to Iraq following the formation of the new Iraqi government, expected to be announced next week.

Also on the agenda was Iran's nuclear issue that Washington wants deferred to the Security Council. Egypt declared Monday that it is seeking a peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, but refuses the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the region.

Cheney, who will be heading to Saudi Arabia later Tuesday, last visited Egypt in March 2002 as part of a Mideast tour aimed at rallying support for the war in Iraq which Washington waged a year later to topple Saddam Hussein's regime.

5. Iraq not Iran
Eqypt, along with Jordan, France and Germany had offered over a year ago to train Iraqis in Eqypt. Bringing in the Arabs would have been a great idea in 2003 or 2004, the problem is why would they be willing to go in now. One factor might be that the Arab League (mostly Sunni countries)in Cairo last November had its own plan - they wanted the US out in a year and the wanted to act as leverage for the Sunnis to insure minority rights. This might be the only way to get to a political solution. I would trust it more if this were the Arab league without Cheney.

4. Shouldn't the "Iraqi government" be doing this?
If the "Iraqi government" wants Sunni Arab troops in their country, shouldn't they be the ones asking for them?

Oh I forgot, Dick Cheney IS the Iraqi Government! And what a good job he does.

7. Here's what Juan Cole has to say about this:

If the Kurds and the Shiites could be talked into it, a US withdrawal from Iraq in favor of an Arab League peace-keeping force might be the least bad end game for a terrifyingly unstable situation.

8. Cole also says Cheney is asking "on his knees" ....
"The wording of the Al-Zaman article suggests that Cheney is angling with Mubarak for a contingency plan, in case things go very badly indeed when the US withdraws its troops. In other words, the Bush administration is going on hands and knees to Cairo because it is very, very desperate and very, very worried."

BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHA

One more brilliant scheme by the most inept Administration in US history.
