US believes bin Laden still alive
THE United States believes al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is alive and hiding around the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region, the US counter-terrorism coordinator said overnight.

US State Department official Henry Crumpton said bin Laden was believed to be somewhere in the border area, the region where an alleged US missile attack targeted al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahri on Friday.

"We have no intelligence or evidence that indicates that he (Bin Laden) is dead or incapacitated, so our working assumption is that he is still alive," Mr Crumpton said.

"I should also note, no sign of life from bin Laden, I think that reflects our collective success," he said. He warned the group was still intent on launching further attacks on western countries, like the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

7. W: "I just don't spend that much time on him."
"And he's just -- he's a person who's now been marginalized. His network, his host government has been destroyed. He's the ultimate parasite who found weakness, exploited it, and met his match. He is -- as I mentioned in my speech, I do mention the fact that this is a fellow who is willing to commit youngsters to their death and he, himself, tries to hide -- if, in fact, he's hiding at all. So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you."

- President George W. Bush, 3/13/02 Press Conference

9. translation: we can't find him.
Just a bunch of excuses to cover their incompetence (allowing him to escape Tora Bora in December 2001).
