Tom Daschle considers bid for president
Former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle is weighing the possibility of running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008.

"I have received a lot of encouragement," Daschle said in an email today to the Argus Leader.

Daschle didn't rule out the possibility of an official announcement in the near future. But for now, he said, he has no plans to run for national office.

In his email, Daschle said the primary factors in his decision "would be my family and our mutual decision to consider the rigors of a campaign and reentry into public life."

24. I got a nice piece of mail from Liz Dole NRSC Chair...
It is a survey that they want me to fill out and I bet most importantly "please include your most generous contribution to NRSC of $500, $250, $200, $50, or even just $25 today."

THE KICKER TO THIS!!!

During the 2004 Election I signed on to a GOP website and used the following name "Real Name Hates Bush".

Of course real name not included here.

3. Fuck Tom Daschle.
He and his lobby-whoring wife represent the very worst of Washington.

More rightwing leglislation passed through the Senate under Tom's "leadership" than ever has since the Republicans took it over. That's an amazing fact, but true.

Daschle/Hung '08!

On the leadership/inspiration/tough leader scale, Daschle ranks lower than Mr. Rogers.

The scary thing is that this is a man who spent YEARS in public life and has no clue that he comes across as the rather fey illegitimate child of Sandra Dee and Al Franken.

Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 09:22 PM by pa28
He already had his chance as Senate majority leader.

Based on that feckless performance he's hardly the person to lead us out of the wilderness. Winning in 2008 will require tearing the meat from the bone.

23. Well stated!
I don't like that DUers rip on the man mercilessly because I really do believe that he is a "good man." But, I just don't see him being successful or even desirable as the Dem candidate for 2008. The only positive thing that I can say for a potential Daschle candidacy is if he were to somehow win it WOULD be sweet because the Republicans smeared him so hard in 2004.

31. .

make it stop!

Tom, as weak as a leader you were, me thinks you were cheated. 51-49% in the age of Rove tactics is awfully suspicious, especially in 2004. The GOP needed to steal a few Senate seats, especially for Federal judicial appointments. Your 'loss' marked the first time in 52 years a party leader has been defeated. Does Mission Accomplished ring any bells? How about Jeff Gannon Guckert?

Long before "Jeff Gannon" became a household pseudonym in the nation's capital, he had earned considerable recognition among the political elites of South Dakota. During that state's closely contested Senate race last year, the Talon News writer -- whose real name is now known to be James Dale Guckert -- dug his claws deep into Tom Daschle, the former Senate minority leader narrowly defeated by Republican John Thune.

Although I sympathize with your loss ... our country is paying dearly for it ... your source of money is curious.

I can't see Tom as a pRes., but I do feel sorry for him for the attempt on his life/scare tactic by dubco. If he wants to do well, he should be on a endless hunt for the Anthrax Killer. Maybe OJ will team up with him and they can look for killers together.
