Bush Averages 45.8% Approval in Fifth Year in Office
Recent quarterly average sets new low for him

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

PRINCETON, NJ -- Jan. 20 marks the beginning of George W. Bush's sixth year in office, closing the book on a rough fifth year. After beginning his second term with a 51% job approval rating, Bush's rating fell to as low as 37% in November, establishing a new personal low. His rating has recovered somewhat in recent weeks and currently stands at 43%, according to a Jan. 9-12 Gallup Poll. However, the marks for Bush's most recent year and most recent quarter in office are the worst of his presidency.

For the year beginning Jan. 20, 2005, and ending Jan. 19, 2006, Bush averaged a 45.8% job approval rating. After getting a short-lived bump to 57% following the successful Iraqi elections in late January, Bush's approval rating fell to the low 50s by mid-February. It stayed below 50% after early May and dipped below 40% in mid-October. In mid-November, just 37% approved of Bush, the lowest mark of his presidency. By early December, Bush's approval rating began to show signs of recovery, and it has held steady in the low 40s since then.

Bush's yearly average has declined significantly in each of the last three years. His first- and second-year averages were among the best of any recent president.

2. At LEAST 10 points should be subtracted if Gallup does the polling
They are one of BushCo's favorite media/polling bitches. It is kind of funny that they have to "average" Smirky's #'s to get them up.

3. George Gallup is dead
What once was honest polling is now highly skewed.

45.8% sure want to buy some ocean front property in Idaho?

4. Gallup doing all they can to prop him up
So if he was at 60% on 1 January, and 30% on 31 December, that averages out to 45% approval.

Yippee!

That's like saying that my beloved Cleveland Browns at 2 wins and 1 loss "had a winning percentage of 67% in... September". "Whoooo-hoooooo, Super Bowl here we come".

9. Interesting site, thanks. But which "link on main page" do you mean?
So I don't have to open every link and guess at what you are saying.

And how does it bust the theories of the posters? Thanks.

...a particularly weak way of softening the current in-the-toilet approval rating.

15. That's it on the nosey
Weak press release by Gallup to prop up Chimpy just a little more. It's basically a meaningless statistic.

Next up: Everyone in the United States averages slightly more than one ovary, slightly less than one testicle.

17. Okay now we use average approval ratings..........
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 12:46 PM by Historic NY
thats like saying he would be 60% but things like Katrina, Rita, Iraq, spygate, wiretapgate, etc. are making him lower. We, at Gallup will now disregard any outside factors in determining * approval rating. Ah, so this is what we think he should be at. Its not a actual real time number that reflects a particular period of time.

18. Aren't polls only useful because they tell you where you are...
at a precise moment in time? It's a tracking device, for goodness sake! Who cares where he was last January if he's in the toilet now!? What is this poll averaging anyway? I've never seen it before.

20. Sure, the average doesn't look so bad
just so long as we remember that he had a very high rating right after the 9-11 disaster; and at the first year or two of his War in Iraq. It just took a while for us to catch on what he was really up to. He's scaring the devil out of me with all his war-mongering, and his close alliance with the big corporations, and to hell with We the People and our constitutional rights................... :scared: :scared: :scared:

21. Average? Gallup Brown nose Service uses the AVERAGE?
So instead of beating us about the head and shoulders with THIS POPULAR WARTIME PRESIDENT, they're now reaching back to his post 9-11 highs to make his currently dismal numbers look better?

Where are all the screaming telly headlines, "BUSH'S APPROVAL RATING JUST BARELY CLIMBS OUT OF TOILET. APPEAR TO BE POISED TO FALL IN AGAIN. BOUNCE TURNS TO BUST. SPECTOR OF IMPEACHMENT LOOMS FOR UNPOPULAR PRESIDENT"
