Bush Meets Hussein Victims; Vows U.S. Will Finish Job in Iraq

Jan. 18 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush met with about a dozen Iraqis who witnessed brutality under Saddam Hussein's regime to praise their courage and repeat his vow that the U.S. is committed helping them build democracy.

Bush, who meet with the Iraqis at the White House today, said the U.S. would ``stand with the Iraqi people'' until the country can defend itself and isn't a safe haven for terrorists.

``Obviously, we've still got work to do and we intend to do it,'' Bush said to reporters following the meeting. He didn't take questions.

Bush called the past year in Iraq ``amazing'' because of the three elections held the writing of a constitution. He said he talked with the victims about the contrast ``between a society which was willing to jail people, torture people and beat people and kill people, to a society beginning to understand the fruits of democracy and freedom.''

Oh, I see, the asshole met some pre-screened Iraqis at the WH and not some regular dudes on the street in Iraq.

2. Once again the age old question: WHAT THE HELL IS..
'FINISHING THE MISSION"

Or

"COMPLETING THE MISSION"

?????

Oh when a democracy is built? oh yea two groups which have been at war with eachother for almost a century (you know how the Shia were once called Zorathians till the Arabs took them over) are all of a sudden gonna join hands after a foreign nation bombs the shit outta them.

What's that asshole? the Iraqis are basically free from a nation whose ruler imprisoned, tortured, beat and killed the peoples within the nation?

I-R-O-N-Y DEFINED.

4. That Last Quote, Sir
Reminds me of the old East Bloc jest: "Capitalism is the exploitation of man by man. Socialism is just the opposite."

We are even using the same jails, and the conduct of out jailors is aimed to precisely the same end: instilling fear of our authority in the people at large.

24. Agreed, this photo op was to counter new torture incidents
...revealed today. NPR ran a long radio story this AM about US Army /CIA supervised torture. The memo came down "take off the gloves." (This is something Cheney was found of saying after 911.) Some involved have been given immunity to testify in a prolonged torture incident which resulted in murder.

It's safe to say Iraqis don't like us, based upon the first Iraq war in which tens of thousands were killed AFTER THE CEASE FIRE upon the orders of media darling General McCaffery, followed by sanctions which are estimated to have killed hundreds of thousands of children, then followed by a second illegal invasion estimated to have killed in excess of 100,000 Iraqis.

Bush Meets Victims of Saddam's Reign

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 16 minutes ago

Iraqis who said they were beaten, imprisoned and lost loved ones at the hands of Saddam Hussein's government shared their stories Wednesday with President Bush, who said the former Iraqi president "will get his due justice."

There was an emotional atmosphere in the hourlong meeting, participants said, as Bush went around a table in the Roosevelt Room asking each of roughly a dozen Iraqis to tell their experiences. Bush said they told "stories of sadness and stories of bravery."

"One of the interesting moments will come here this year when Saddam Hussein's trial is brought forth for the world to see, to see the butcherer, the person who brutalized many people or ordered the brutality of many people here at this table, get his due justice under rule of law," the president told reporters brought in for two minutes at the end of the meeting.

Saddam and seven co-defendants are on trial for the deaths of more than 140 Shiite Muslims in the town of Dujail in 1982. The trial recessed on Dec. 22 after two days of testimony and is scheduled to resume Tuesday. Conviction could bring a sentence of death by hanging........
