Two Charged in Northwest Ecoterror Probe
Two Charged in Northwest Ecoterror Probe

Wednesday January 18, 2006 11:47 PM

By JEFF BARNARD

Associated Press Writer

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) - Two people have been charged in a federal investigation of a string
of Northwest arsons claimed by the shadowy radical groups Earth Liberation Front and Animal
Liberation Front, authorities said Wednesday.

Jonathan Paul, 39, was arrested Tuesday on charges that he helped firebomb a horsemeat packing
plant in Redmond, Ore., in 1997, said Diane Peterson, spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office
in Portland.

Suzanne Savoie, 28, remained at large, Peterson said. She was charged with serving as a lookout
for the 2001 firebombing of the offices of a lumber mill in Glendale, Ore.

Each suspect faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

1. 20 years. More than rape and many homicides
This is a country that values private property MORE than human life, apparently.

3. 20 years refers to the potential maximum sentence...
In Maryland, for example, the max sentence for rape and murder is life.

http://www.msccsp.org/guidelines/appendixa.html

take a look at some the max sentences in Maryland - an eye opening experience.

For some reason, whenever I hear that right wing chestnut, my eyes roll so far back in my head they stick.

Until that point I would agree to no such thing. :)

6. I believe the wording of eco"terror" is what is suspect here...
Timothy McVeigh wasn't brandished a "terrorist" by any stretch of the imagination, so why the sudden broadening of "terrorism" to include environmentalists?

Are their tactics suspect to criminal activity, certainly. But they are hardly "terrorists".

7. I would say that firebombing
constitutes a form of terrorism.

8. Yet bombing a federal building is just some "nut job" not a terrorist...
I hate this discussion every time it comes up.

17. you must be kidding....
Apologies in advance if my sarcasm detector is out of adjustment-- personally, I think these folks are courageous and admirable. They're defending the earth against greedy industrialists, developers, etc., and risking their own freedom, and perhaps their lives, to do it. They're heros, IMO.

19. I'm with you.
I wish I had their courage and conviction.

We do NOT have the fucking right to destroy this planet and other life forms.

Somebody has to say it, and spray paint is better than blood, which is what their targets have on THEIR hands.

Jesus fucking christ.

On edit, my sarcasm detector may be on the fritz as well.
I work with freepers all day and it always breaks down by noon from the strain.

If you are kidding, please accept my apology.

people who use the term than the people it purports to describe...in the sixties and early seventies the term was "outside agitators"...I hadn't given it much notice that while the "Blind Sheik" led a terrorist group, Tim McVeiegh and Terry Nichols were "disaffected" troubled young men...The Black Panthers were a violent terrorist group while the KKK, who actually killed people, were a mere "racist" organization...sheesh.

13. Read my post, #10
McVeigh and Nichols were not considered "troubled young men"; they were considered terrorists.

16. Not to rain on your parade...the characterizations of
McVeigh and Nichols in the MSM were that as disaffected, and troubled by the role of the U.S government in Waco and other "militia" issues, I never said that someone or other may have called them terrorists in a book or two, but I stand by my comments. I think I'm tired too...buh-bye.

14. Exactly.
Meanwhile, the death toll from actions attributed to the animal rights and environmentalist movements?

Absolutely fucking zero.

The government's top anti-terrorist priority- ahead of al qaeda!- is a movement that's never killed anybody, but threatens corporate profits.

This, my friends, is fascism.

15. Well if that's the kind of people their evesdropping on, maybe its ok?
Of course, I'm not serious.

But is that the point of this action and the news reports about it? Headline vs. headline? While typing this I'm listening to actions of some extreme group in the UK plotting to kidnap blair's son.

Too much of a stretch?

Have they done that, yet?
