BTW, PhilipShore, you can post up to 4 paragraphs as per DU rules. This is helpful for those of us who are dial-up users. You can cut and snip as desired, just don't exceed 4 paragraphs.

DeLay's Americans for a Republican Majority PAC, under a slightly different name, also gave $11,000 in May 2002 to then-U.S. Rep. Bob Riley, secretary of state campaign finance records show. At the time, Riley was seeking the Republican Party's gubernatorial nomination.

Riley spokesman Jeff Emerson said the Americans for a Republican Majority contributions were not the same as those involving Washington lobbyist and DeLay associate Jack Abramoff, who recently pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges.
Since Abramoff's plea, numerous state and national politicians, including Riley, have either refunded Abramoff contributions or made like contributions from a current political campaign fund to a charity. Riley sent $1,000 to a charity.
"There is a big difference in Abramoff, who pleaded guilty to committing a crime, which he should serve time for, and DeLay, who has only been charged and is presumed innocent," Emerson said.
