Two key al-Qaida militants missing
Two al-Qaida militants reported missing and suspected killed in Friday's U.S. missile attack in Pakistan are key regional commanders along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Afghan and Pakistani analysts said.

Marwan As-Suri, believed to be in his 30s, is a Syrian who recently had been appointed to head al-Qaida operations in part of the Pakistani areas bordering Kunar, the Afghan said.

According to the Afghan source, another important al-Qaida invitee to the dinner was Abdul Hadi Al-Iraqi, who reportedly has served as a liaison between al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and the al-Qaida-backed guerrilla leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

2. Am I to feel better about the dead children now? . . .
"Well, certainly we killed women and children and destroyed a couple of homes, but these two guys may have been invitees to the dinner party and we haven't seen them in days. They may be laying low, you know, given that we've taken to destroying neighborhoods to seek them out, but they could be dead, too, so it was all worth it. Trust us. We're professionals."

3. Who really knows if they are missing or not?
why should I care? Seriously, what can I do with this information? For every leader killed, 3 more are available to fill the slot. We'll be reading the same story 20 years from now, only the names will changed.

BTW, when will we see the AQ playing cards released? It would be a big help to know who are enemy is and what suit they are in.

21. My thoughts exactly
They keep thinking about AQ as if it's a corporation, with a "president" and "vice-presidents" in a nice orderly triangle of command. And if you knock off one of the top blocks, the whole structure will come down.

That's not how I see them.

I think they're, as you say, a fluid organization of sepatate, loosely coordinated groups. Knock one of them off and the other groups can still operate just fine.

And they're filling their ranks very quickly these days thanks to outrage against the US indiscriminate slaughter of ordinary civilians.

They've accomplished exactly nothing.

a long time ago? Most likely, because it's a bullshit fake story put out by the CIA for CYA.

10. I am confused. Who reported these guys missing?
Were they reported missing by someone else outside the government to the government?

Were people overheard saying they were missing?

Am I missing something here?

11. Whither AQ?
This article has very little info, and who knows what really happened with this airstrike, but is everyone here really so indifferent whether any AQ bigs got killed? I mean, it's one thing to say "They'll be replaced" because they will, but it would still be a setback, and isn't a setback for AQ a good thing?

12. nobody is stopping you from celebrating this "very little info"
go on ahead, then maybe when you see the same story seventeen times this year, you might begin to realize why others seem a mite skeptical.

And Paul Bremmer, then the director of the US led reconstruction effort in Iraq, said at the time that he believed that releasing the photographs would "in the long run...hopefully encourage more Iraqis to come and give us information about more Baathists, and that's really what we have to have happen next."

Steven A. Cook, an expert on political reform in the Middle East and a fellow with the Council on Foreign Relations told Crime Library recently, it is likely that in the grand scheme of things, the deaths have had and will have little effect on the still roiling insurgency in Iraq.

"I think it was wishful thinking to think that the deaths of Uday and Qusay would have some kind of meaningful impact on the insurgency and in the end, it's proven to really be a non event."

13. AQ Bombmaker Midhat Mursi and the Geico Connection
According to unnamed sources at Geico, he was fired and edited out of the Caveman commercials when he showed up to the set jittery and smelling of explosives, and the director noticed what looked like a fuse protruding from the man's fly.

16. Reported missing?
Who reported them missing?

Do they check in at regular intervals and missed a check-in?

Did their comrades report Chemical Ali #2 missing?

Did their comrades report Master Shoebomber Trainer #1 missing?

Where is the PDF file of the dinner invitation?

Where is the PDF file of the alleged dinner menu?

Are they going to appear on a fucking milk carton?

The Propaganda Minister's bullshit machine is at full speed.

18. Well, assuming they completed AQ membership applications
like Jose Padilla's, presumably the "emergency contacts" listed on those forms were notified when these AQ employees failed to clock in at the terror factory for a second day in a row. Whether they are dead or simply playing hooky is unknown, and really is terribly unimportant.

23. thye wont kill us if we leave them alone.
as we should have done all along.

If we were to leave Iraq, Afghanistan and the rest of the middle east today, then the threat to us is gone. Why do we continue to stay in an area where we are clearly not welcome and put ourselves at risk?

25. Sorry, I don't agree with you.
Does the US stick its nose where it doesn't belong far too often? Yes.

Will an US isolationist policy change some Muslims attitutes towards Westerners? No.

26. WOW!!!! is there nothing in the middle????
Let's see... We should travel 1000's of miles and drop bombs on people who never threatened nor invited us to do so.
OR.... we should become isolationist!!! Kinda dishonest to only consider the extremes isn't it?
Leaving Iraq to Iraqis as the poster you replied to implied seems to be about the right medium.

27. I wasn't talking about Iraq
I'm very much against the war in Iraq, and we never should have entered that country.

However, I very much support the war on AQ. They should be defeated as soon as possible.
