Mass. governor spent $300k on trips
Mass. governor spent $300k on trips
Jan 19, 2006, 4:20 GMT

BOSTON, MA, United States (UPI) -- Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney says the more than $300,000 spent from his campaign fund on luxury suites, booze and private jets across the country is legal.

Recently disclosed campaign finance reports show the unofficial 2008 Republican presidential candidate is sparing no expense on the campaign trail, the Boston Herald reported.

Federal laws allow politicians to use state campaign funds for national political trips up until they officially become candidates for federal office.
(snip)

Among the charges are $5,200 in baseball tickets; $11,000 on a private jet; $617 on alcohol; and $12,615 on airfare, hotels and meals at Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Fla.

7. As an aside.........
The Mormon "religion" has got the be the most ludicrous on the planet. A guy named Joe Smith is visited by an angel, aptly named "Moroni", and a religion is born of it. If anyone has ever studied the true history of the Mormons it reads like a comedy. :rofl: Some people will believe anything.

12. Don't forget about their sacred magical undergarments that can repel
bullets as well as the advances of a horny, polygamous Elder. LOL..
Disclaimer: The Mormon family I married into is neither incestuous, nor polygamist. They are, however, blindingly dull and incredibly naive for believing the NONSENSE they do.

5. My thoughts exactly, can't wait until he leaves.

Hopefully the next one in that office will be able to relate to the people of Massachusetts. He has used the Governorship as a steppingstone to his run for the oval office. Its clear to all of us that his intentions are to further his career. Where else but to Washington.

8. Was the veto to stop some special interest group
Did the Dems over-ride serve to stop something worse? I'm not familiar with this issue but I certainly would not want the station upriver from my water supply. Any idea where I can get more info? Globe?

Legislative override blocks trash plan

By Joanna Massey, Globe Staff | July 25, 2004

Overriding a veto by Governor Mitt Romney, state legislators last week voted to prohibit construction of a trash-transfer station proposed in Brockton near the Avon town wells.

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate approved an override of the governor's veto of a state budget amendment barring solid-waste transfer stations from being sited within a certain distance from public drinking water supplies.

<snip>

Members of two residents groups formed to fight the proposal say they are overjoyed with the new law.

<snip>

"We were told over and over that it's against all odds for a small group to take on large corporation, and back then the city wanted it, too," he said. "It just shows you that a small group of committed people can change things; they really can."

13. Bottled water
He can afford to buy bottled water; he doesn't care if other peoples' drinking water is clean.

14. He's a flip-flopper, too.
He used to be pro-choice, but now he's pro-"life". He figures he'll get more votes by sucking up to the religious nuts.

4. Mormonism on alcohol and modesty:
"Mormon theology," says Hinckley, "deals with such widely diversified subjects as the nature of heaven and the evils of alcohol. Actually, in this philosophy the two are closely related. Since man is created in the image of God, his body is sacred. . . . As such, it ill becomes any man or women to injure or dissipate his or her health." So alcohol (as well as tobacco, tea, and caffeine) is out for the believing Mormon.
