International Monitors report Iraq vote fraud
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 08:44 AM by cal04
International monitors say there were widespread irregularities in last month's general election in Iraq. The monitors do not question the final result of the election, nor do they make any overall judgement whether it was free and fair.

The report said there had been about 2,000 complaints of ballot-rigging, violence and intimidation. It said Iraqi officials resolved many of the problems, despite a lack of resources to investigate complaints.

The report, by the International Mission for the Iraqi elections said only 237 of the 30,000 polling stations had failed to open.

The report also said that because of the security situation, there were not enough polling stations, and some of the polling centres ran out of ballot papers.
