Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia to Deliver Democratic Response to SOTU
http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=59500

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, and Democratic Governors Association Chair New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson announced today that Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia will deliver the Democratic Response to President Bush's State of the Union Address on January 31st.

In his response, Governor Kaine will discuss the Democratic vision that focuses on the priorities of all Americans. Governor Kaine will deliver the response from the Governor's mansion in Richmond, Virginia.

"We are proud to announce that Governor Kaine will deliver our Democratic response this year," said Leader Pelosi and Leader Reid. "Throughout his career in public service, Governor Kaine has been a champion for working families, putting their priorities above the needs of the special interests. The success of his positive message in Virginia is indicative of the resonance of Democratic values with the American people. His vision of increased economic opportunity, affordable education, and fiscal responsibility will help Virginia prosper for years to come and sets a leadership example for the rest of the country."

"Americans will get to hear a different point-of-view from a Governor who is working to solve problems people care about," DGA Chair New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson said. "Virginians elected Tim Kaine because they know he is an innovative leader who will keep Virginia moving in the right direction. Now, the American people will hear from the Governor Virginians chose -- a leader who's on the front lines everyday working to help his fellow citizens."

3. Do a good job Governor Kaine....
Personally, I think Barack Obama would have been a great choice.. clear, precise and soOOoooo eloquent, but I suppose Governor Kaine needs his time in the spotlight...

Do us proud Kaine..

4. Too bad they didn't go with Murtha

So the Democrats have chosen Virginia Governor Tim Kaine to deliver the party's response to President Bush's State of the Union speech. Chalk up another one for the What the Hell Are They Thinking? file.

On the same day that Osama Bin Laden's chilling warnings make it Red Alert clear that Bush's obsession with Iraq has not made us safer here at home -- and, indeed, has caused us to take our eye off the real enemy -- the Dems decide that the charge against Bush shouldn't be led by someone who can forcefully articulate why the GOP is not the party that can best keep us safe, but by someone whose only claim to fame is that he carried a red state.

Talk about clueless.

7. Kaine just won a big election two months ago
While he wouldn't have been my first pick, I don't think it is that weird that he has been chosen.

16. A huge election in a red state, that is slowing going quite purple
And, Kaine put up a good, honest, clean fight against a nasty campaign. Good for Kaine! Although I don't agree with him on some things, he is truly a good guy. Yay!

9. I like Murtha -- but I think Dems are going to like Kaine. PLUS...
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 07:32 PM by johnfunk
... there are rumblings from within the DNC that they are "planning something bold and completely outside the box [which will] steal the next morning's headlines from Bush."

Hmmm...

We know that as of today, the "centerpiece" of Bunnypants Bush's agenda is allegedly his new Health Savings Scam. We also know that Kaine is a solid communicator.

Methinks Dr. Dean and his crew (including their top PR guy, Damien LaVera, and Tom McMahon Parag Mehta, who are building the party's training and policy infrastructure and solidifying a disciplined approach to shaping policy) -- all are names to watch, by the way) may have a nasty little surprise centered on the Health Savings Scam being the GOP Culture of Corruption's 2006 Banner Albatross.

Grab the popcorn...

15. go git 'im, Tim!
Kaine has impressed me so far. In his first days in office, he came out with a much-needed plan to give local communities more power to fight against developers, who are out of control in this state. I hate to see some DUers pile on him because he doesn't square up with their ideal of the perfect Democrat. This is Virginia, we'll take what we can get! If Kilgore had won, jeezus, he'd be launching the culture wars agnt pregnant teens and gays instead of dealing with real problems.

Interesting choice, and no Bush Bashing Bloviating Baggage, he may be taken more seriously by the general public. Well, the dozen or so of us who watch :)
