U.S. Rep.: slow federal debris removal after Katrina "sinful"
... Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., spoke after she and other members of the committee toured devastated areas of New Orleans Thursday and the other two parishes worst hit by the storm — St. Bernard and Plaquemines.

"Tremendous amounts of money are being spent, but they are not reaching" people who need it, she said ...

"Debris removal is way behind what I would expect from us as a government," Committee Chairman Tom Davis, R-Va., said ...

1. Somebody's gonna get a spankin' when he gets home...
"Debris removal is way behind what I would expect from us as a government," Committee Chairman Tom Davis, R-Va., said. The committee will investigate why, he added.

<snip>

Davis and other members said they were struck by the difference between areas of Plaquemines Parish where the parish hired contractors on its own and those where Federal Emergency Management Agency crews were at work.

"The locals have done a better job, they have done a faster job, and, we think, with less money," Davis said.

Taking responsibility on a federal level?!?!?? Giving kudos to the locals???!?

Tsk. What kind of republican is he?

3. Davis is my Rep
He is a very rich and powerful Republican in my Northern Virginia district. Occasionally he does service-oriented things however. Actually his office is good at doing things like serving his constituents with problems. I wrote a letter to him to get my brother help with his diability medical needs and it helped. Without him I don't think my brother would have gotten the operations he needed. Davis is very popular (and probably nearly impossible to unseat). Even though the area he serves is somewhat divided and not a really "Red" district.

4. I firmly believe there are some good Republican Reps.
They have just been pushed to the side by the assholes running our country right now.
