Suicide car bomb kills two US Marines

BAGHDAD - A suicide car bomber has killed two US Marines in western Iraq, the military said on Saturday.

"Two Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), were killed in action by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) while conducting combat operations in Haqlaniyah" on Friday, it said in a statement.

Haqlaniyah is located 135 kilometres (85 miles) west of Baghdad.

Up to this point it has not hit close to home.

During the Vietnam days I knew many many people fighting over there. If the times were the same now as then, if the draft made every family vulnerable to that far-away war, there would be much more outcry over the dying and the injuries.
