Alito Gives Senate Committee More Answers
Last Updated:

... He also again said he saw a right to privacy in the Constitution, and said his views in a 1985 memo saying the "Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion" was influenced by Supreme Court opinions criticizing Roe. v Wade as well as "scholarly publications."

Alito has distanced himself from that memo, telling senators he wrote it as an advocate who was looking for a job in the conservative Reagan administration. During his confirmation hearing, he refused during to say whether he still believes that statement ...

Alito did offer opinions on:

_The Miranda warning that comes from the 1966 decision requiring police to tell suspects they have the right to remain silent and to have an attorney present when answering questions. Alito said the Miranda decisions "caused me concern when I was in college." ...

he can and will do whatever he wants once he's confirmed.

4. How can he get away with this fancy dancing around a question?
Alito has distanced himself from that memo, telling senators he wrote it as an advocate who was looking for a job in the conservative Reagan administration. During his confirmation hearing, he refused during to say whether he still believes that statement.

We deserve much more than evasive answers particularly when evaluating someone to a lifetime friggin' appointment on the SC. Same goes for his non-answers regarding CAP.

6. So...he lied to get the job with Reagan.
So I think it's reasonable to assume he's lying now too.

9. Alito: Miranda decision "caused me concern when I was in college.."
Justice Scalia has spoken and written openly against Miranda. I suppose if one thinks torture is okay, there is no point in telling a suspect that he has the right to remain silent and that he can contact an attorney.

I tremble to think of the sort of Supreme Court that Alito would be a part of, a Court that would approve of an all-powerful President with the right of life and death over all of us.

10. Unless that president was a Democrat
Bush nominees are not judges, they are Republican activists. They won't objectively judge cases, they will just call the Republican Party and see what they are being paid to rule.
