Saudi king (Abdullah) in China for oil talks
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/CBC42713-AB48-4141-A652-090E53D8F2B1.htm

King Abdullah has begun the first ever state visit to China by a Saudi leader, expected to focus on boosting co-operation to fuel China's soaring energy needs.

The visit marks the first part of an Asian tour that will take him on to India, Malaysia and Pakistan.

During his three-day stay in China, Abdullah is scheduled to meet President Hu Jintao on Monday and Wu Bangguo, the No 2 Communist Party leader, and Wen Jiabao, the prime minister, on Tuesday.

Kong Quan, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, said on Thursday that the two sides were expected to discuss energy co-operation, anti-terrorism, politics, economics, culture, health and telecommunications.

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah Arrives in China, Starts Asia Tour

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=a.6F9wydsjQM&refer=top_world_news

Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah arrived in Beijing today at the start of a four-country Asia tour, his first official foreign trip since he took power last year.

Abdullah, who leads the world's largest oil exporter, meets President Hu Jintao tomorrow. It's the first time a Saudi King has visited China, the world's largest energy market. Abdullah travels on to New Delhi, where he'll be the chief guest at India's Jan. 26 Republic Day celebrations. He will also visit Malaysia and Pakistan.

Abdullah and Hu will discuss energy issues, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said in Beijing last week. Saudi Arabia is the largest oil supplier to China, where the mix of surging economic growth and stagnant domestic output has doubled imports since the start of the decade. The two leaders are expected to sign several agreements on trade and investment.

State-owned Saudi Aramco may invest in an oil storage project on southern China's Hainan oil, the Oriental Morning Post reported last week. Aramco, the world's largest oil company by production, also plans to expand a joint venture refinery in Fujian province and invest in a new plant in Qingdao, the company's head of refining Khalid al-Buainan said last month.

King Abdullah will be accompanied by his oil minister, Ali al-Naimi, China's foreign ministry said.

that the US is broke and that China is loaded with money. Maybe they want a customer they can count on who does not destroy Muslim nations.

12. True! But they would have to unpeg the renminbi first from the basket
of eight currencies it is tied to. If they did that, the dollar would drop like a rock.
Time to crank up my FOREX software!!

10. Reminds me of the scene from Syriana where the
well-educated prince says, "I've made oil deals with China, selling to them for the best price so my people will have the benefit of that, and suddenly I'm a terrorist?" Or words to that effect. Then he got blown up.

13. China and Russia can make huge efforts to engage the ME
While this looks "bad" for America, especially in the eyes of neo cons, it will eventually allow for greater American security. America is not "safe" from terrorism due to lack of engagement, not due to our own freedom and liberties.

22. Methinks the Saudis realize Murikka is going DOWN - China . . UP
.
.
.

I sorta doubt that the Saudis own debts from China - but maybe the Saudis will "trade" some of the US debt to China for the oil

And Saudia Arabia gets to own more of Amerikka

The Saudis already owned enuf of Amerikka to be the only ones to get out of the country right after 911

The USA administration has been prostituting itself to the rest of the World since Prescott Bush helped the Nazis in WW2 - maybe even before . . .

Think about it . . .

25. Abdullah's visit to China is the first ever by a Saudi king
King to sign Saudi-China oil deals

Monday 23 January 2006, 7:48 Makka Time, 4:48 GMT

Abdullah's visit to China is the first ever by a Saudi king

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah is expected to sign a series of agreements on energy cooperation and trade during meetings in Beijing as he continues his state visit to China.

The three-day visit that began on Sunday is the first by a Saudi ruler since the two countries formed diplomatic relations in 1990, and comes as China tries to secure overseas oil and gas reserves for its power-hungry economy.

Total trade between the two countries - much of it Saudi oil bought by China - grew by 59% in the first 11 months of 2005 to $14 billion, according to China's Foreign Ministry.

Saudi Arabia accounts for about 17% of China's imported oil.

China, the world's second biggest oil consumer, has been aggressively seeking to strengthen relationships with major oil suppliers as it grows increasingly reliant on oil imports...cont'd

Chinese prez? And will the Chinese prez be kissing the king? If so, stay tuned to this new episode of "Days of the WH". Will a jilted george* feel scorned as when he finds out his lover, the king, has gone looking for Asian delights? Or is the king, feeling a bit peeved because georgie* just can't seem to get his act together?

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of "DAYS OF THE WH".

29. Elsewhere, it has been reported that the Saudis are nonetheless
somewhat reluctant to become too tied to a controlled economy, especially when one of the controls is the domestic price of oil.
