US to press Pakistan to step up efforts to find bin Laden

WASHINGTON (AFX) - Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Islamabad was working hard to capture al-Qaeda leaders in northwestern Pakistan, ahead of meetings with US officials in Washington this week.

He also said that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who US officials believe is hiding out in Pakistan's rugged tribal regions along the Afghan border, might not even be in Pakistan.

'We and the rest of the world have no clue where he or his associates are ... He could be anywhere in the region or even outside the region,' Aziz told CNN.

US leaders are expected to press Aziz to step up efforts to flush out bin Laden and other top al-Qaeda figures in their meetings, which come after a week of protests in Pakistan against a US strike targeting an al-Qaeda meeting which left an estimated 18 dead, most of them reportedly civilians.

5. George, why don't you step up efforts to find him?
Why does Pakistan have to do your "war on terror", you have said that you don't give much thought to where he is, why should Pakistan? bin Laden is your business partner, who is from Saudi Arabia, resides in Afghanistan sometimes, so I guess it only makes sense that the Pakistan government look for him. After all we are to busy looking for what ever it is in Iraq so we need the Pakistanis to look for him in other places right?

This is the same twisted reasoning that explains how we are safer, but need to be afraid. How we are fighting them over there so we don't need to fight them here. Yet there is a need to wire tap, data mine and get internet search engines to turn over information.

Has the terror threat color code been elevated since the release of the bin Laden tape, or is this not an election year? Just a curious question.

8. No color change.
Last I heard we were smoking him out dead or alive, except for not really thinking about him much anymore.

Why should Pakistan find him? I guess because we have no intention of doing so.

When we get closer to elections, we'll have a color change.
